Throughout our walk, both of us were insanely quiet. But no, not the 'awkward' kind of quiet, it was more like.. like the cute kind?

It was already dark outside and the street lanterns lighted our path with a warm tone.

All the way I was walking a little behind him, looking at the ground and lost in my thoughts. I should say something. But then, what? I can't just jump out of the blue with something like 'hey, what's your mom's name?' or 'so what's your blood type' or 'are you maybe single?' or-

"We're here," Sugawara's voice interrupted my overflowing thoughts and I bumped into his back, accidentaly breathing in the air around him.

Dammit. How does he smell so good? This scent.. reminds me of home. Of coziness, blankets and long talks with hot chocolate.

Yeah, home..

I wasn't even thinking; I gripped Sugawara's shirt's back and buried my face onto it.

"P-Please, let me stay like this for a second," I whispered.

To tell the truth, I wanted to stay like that forever.

He didn't say anything nor did he move even an inch, but I could feel him lowering his head and for some odd reason, I just knew he smiled sadly. There's that strange connection again.

Once again, it was like all the time in the universe has stopped. We were in our own small world, two third years standing on the sidewalk, when suddenly a car drove by and beeped, causing the moment to fade away.

"Kuso," it made me curse silently as I quickly let go of Sugawara. "Forgive me, I keep putting you in trouble," I bowed to him.

"Don't sweat it," his lips curled into a yet again melancholic smile, while he turned around and faced me.

"So, uh.. the treat.."

"I already told you, you don't have to," Sugawara chuckled. "Besides, it would be really weird having a girl paying for the food, don't you think?"

"I guess you're right," I drew my lower lip between my teeth.

Silence. The awkward kind.

"It's getting really late. I'll walk you home," the corner of Sugawara's lips stayed turned up. "Which way is it?"

~

"Gah! I can't believe myself!" I exclaimed, burying my face into the pillow. "How could I be so dumb? I let my emotions take over me and.. GAH!" I hid my face in my hands, remembering how I gripped Sugawara's shirt back in the street.

I think I'm going to die out of embarrassment if my mom doesn't kill me first for coming back so late. She was in the shower when I got home, so the worst is yet to come.

She's like a live, walking demon, crushing everything she doesn't like in her way.

"Y/N." The door creaked.

Here we go.

"Who was that?"

"Huh?"

"Do not play dumb with me, you ungrateful child!"

My mom suddenly started to shout, but I've already gotten used to it by now. Even so, I wasn't able to understand what nonsense she was talking about this time.

"I saw you! I saw you coming back home with that boy!" Her face now turned red out of anger, you could even see smoke steaming from her body.

"I thought you were in the shower, how could you see anything?"

"So I was right then! How dare you?! After all that's happened with your father, how could you even get that close to a boy?! I forbid you to see or talk to him anymore! You insolent foolish girl, one day you'll understand," and the next thing I knew, the door to my room shut and I was left with a blank expression on my face.

"I am forbidden of seeing Sugawara again? No, that can't be right. No, no, no, no. This can't be the truth," I thought as I stared at the wall before me. Mother has connections at school, there's no way I'd be able to get pass her eyes.

"Oh, God, no."

A long time ago, on the day I finished my kindergarden, a boy in our group hugged me as a way of saying goodbye. I'll never forget that day. My mother saw it and once we got home, she slapped me and went insanely mad, started shouting and didn't stop, while my eyes were pinned to ground, my body all stiff.

"No, no, please.."  Tears started gathering in the corners of my eyes and I tried to fight them back with the strenght that's left in me but I couldn't. They started flowing with no way of stopping them.

"Dammit," I muttered through my bursting tears to the pillow.
