attention

I cringe at the sound of my alarm clock going off, rolling over and shoving my face in my pillow.

Why the fuck do we have to wake up so early for school?

I reach my hand out and hit the 'off' button on my clock, sitting up and stretching. Storm pokes his head into my room, his tail wagging once he sees that i'm up.

And then i'm being pushed backwards again by the corgi jumping on my chest and licking my face.

"Storm— Storm!" I laugh, trying to get him off. Emily soon walks into my room, running in and hopping onto my bed and laying down next to me.

Emily is my little sister. She's only 7, and she has the same dirty blonde hair and dark blue eyes that I have. She's wearing her favourite pyjamas, the Peppa Pig ones.

"Hi Eli," Emily says, smiling at me. She hugs Storm, pulling him towards her and receiving a small growl in the process. "Storm never comes into my room." She pouts.

I shrug. "Take him with you when you're going to bed," I suggest. Storm likes attention from anyone.

Emily looks up at me. "I do, but he just leaves me." She says, crossing her arms.

"You can sleep in my room tonight if you want?" I offer, causing her to grin and hug me. I ruffle my hand in her hair, causing her to poke her tongue out at me.

"Yay, yay, yay!" Emily squeals, kissing Storm before leaving my room.

Emily is my favourite family member; she cares about me and I care about her. I'd do almost anything to make her happy.

With a smile on my face, I roll out of bed and shower. Once I'm done, I get dressed in a plain black hoodie and black jeans. I run a hand through my hair, deciding that it's good the way it is. I slip on my converse and grab my backpack before heading downstairs.

"Good morning, Elliott." My mom says, standing in the kitchen placing her dishes away. My mom leaves for work early in the morning, and Emily gets a babysitter.

My mom tried her best to make Em and I happy, but it was hard. She works for most of the day and by the time she comes home she's exhausted and in a bad mood. I know that she's doing what she can for Emily and I, but it still sucks.

I smile. "Morning," I chirp, pouring a bowl of corn pops.

"How are you?" My mom asks, turning and looking at me.

"I'm alright," I say through a mouth full of corn pops.

Oops?

My mom gives me a disapproving look, smiling as she shakes her head. "I have to go, but I'll see you after work." She says, coming over and kissing my forehead before leaving the house.

I finish my corn pops quickly, rinsing the empty bowl in the sink.

Emily's babysitter would be here any minute, so I got into my car, waiting.

Once I see the babysitter pull up, I make my way to school with a few minutes to spare. I get to my locker, seeing Brandon, Cassandra, Liam, Cameron, and Samantha crowding it.

"Hey," Cassandra says, coming up to me and wrapping an arm around my waist. I wrap my arm around her shoulder and kiss her cheek.

"How was detention?" Brandon asks, turning towards me.

"It wasn't bad, just a tad bit boring and I would've rather been home. Cole talked to me and Mr. Smith fell asleep." I state flatly.

Liam looks up at me. "Cole? Like Cole Johnson?" He questions, shock evident on his face. I simply nod and his eyebrows shoot up. "Was he an asshole?"
