Mayhem

43 9 11

Ivory tusks glowed yellow;
Courtesy of summer solstice.
Powerful feet crushes mud walls.
Destruction on the wake.

A force not to be reckoned with,
These gentle grey giants-
Nature's pride and grace-
Turn oblivious monster on temper.

Trumpets- shrill and loud-
Pierce the deadly silence
In veil of peace.
They trample on, under the sun's heat.

He could do nothing, but gaze
Grimly, silently
As his home crumbles,
His sanctuary be tore apart.

In a world of dwindling land,
Who was to be blamed- men or they?
For each had a story of loss
To tell and blame.

He mourns and moves on,
Like the Jumbos did once.
The balance between them fails,
Even in shared grief.

I wanted to post this on Environment day, but wasn't able to. It's based on animal-human conflicts.

Clearing of grasslands and forests for cultivation, roads and factories construction affect elephant-corridors. Due to new environment, these creatures lose the track they follow and intrude into human settlements (often backward and remote) causing mayhem and even death.
