☆ ᵃᵈᵐⁱⁿ ; hey, kiddos, arty here. i honestly wanted to talk about something important here that i think everyone should think about as they interact with others on this platform. so prepare yourselves for some sappiness. i am gonna feel like a hippie at a love - in while writing this.
i have been on and off on wattpad for almost five years. i actually use to come on here for only fanfiction. then i had this x-men roleplay book which was a lot of fun, simpler times. there was another KIDS OF THE AVENGERS roleplay book (sounds cheesy, but some cool people were there) and i made even more friends there. it was all about making characters and just roleplaying. no fancy books, no fancy icons, no fancy layouts (even though those are fun too): just follow what the admin says for the chapter and roleplay in the comments (there wasn't even a chain, you just went in and posted individual comments tagging the people you were intending on interacting with). it was a lot of fun!
eventually the people from my roleplays started making anons. marvel ones based off our characters from the roleplay book. it was fun in the beginning. a lot of fun. but then shit went down.
anons dating other anons was fine. it was when the admin BECAME their character and felt their character's emotions. drama set in. yada , yada . . .
at this point in the game, the drama's origin is from admin groups on kik and stuff. it gets brought to the roleplay. but honestly, that is not what i really want to talk about.
i want to talk about how we treat eachother in general.
imagine you are in a restuarant with a bunch of strangers. wattpad is literally a restuarant and everyone is stranger. you don't know their backstory, lives. on the internet, you usually don't even know their age, name, sex, or what they look like. it is easy to forget that they are human. would you and your squad chew someone out for something they said that you overheard and out of context. realistically, and hopefully, no.
EVERYONE WHO OWNS AN ACCOUNT ON THIS PLATFORM IS A HUMAN BEING AND SHOULD BE TREATED FAIRLY.
They have feelings. They have parents. They have family. They have friends. They have enemies. They have school. They have favorite books. They have favorite movies. They have favorite music. They have ice cream preferences. They like coffee or tea. They have religion or none. They have insecurities. They have homes. They have TV. They get inspired. They have mistakes on their track record. They have dates. They have prom. They have pets. They have neighbors.
They have a lot more in common with you than you would think.
yes, some people can be annoying to you. that is fine, you can be annoyed, it is natural. a lot of the time, that person doesn't know that they are being annoying. you probably annoy other people and don't even know it. BUT THAT IS FINE. what goes, goes. but please don't be rude to this person. just move along. and if they are pestering you or really bothering you, don't send your squad after them. be a man. talk to them in private. we have pm's for a reason.
maybe someone is saying something that pisses you off? either debate them politely or move along.
maybe you get into a fight with someone. or maybe something revealed hurt your feelings and you are just pissed. or INSERT EVERY CASE SCENARIO EXCEPT FOR SERIAL KILLER. you tell everyone how pissed you are and in the process of the gossip, you dehumanize a person. now everyone is attacking this person, their reputation is destroyed, and they are left hating themselves. whether the person attacked truly did something wrong or not, no one should be dehumanized that way. it is okay to bitch to friends privately. but shading people on message boards and posting it in chapters to embarrass people is something i am growing to despise. it creates something ugly.
guys, when interacting with people, think twice. take your time. think how what you say will affect this person. while some of you don't care, some actually do.
everyone comes here to escape the ugliness of the real world. let us try to keep this more welcoming for those people.
i have been here for awhile. i don't know everything. just from what i observed, i have noticed an ugliness that can take over.
take time to reach out to people you love and let them know that you love them. send them a nice message for no reason any day.
also take time to reach out to people you have fought with or get annoyed by. still send a nice message. try to understand or make peace with them. you will feel better, trust me.
i really think as a role play environment we would be more attractive and make more friends and get more positive things than negative if we treated EVERYONE nicely, not just those who have pretty looking accounts, or are your best buds in your kik group chat, or are perfectly literate, etc.
and sometimes you are going to screwup. it is totally natural. that doesn't mean you are bad or anything. you can correct yourself and move on. and keep that in mind when other people slip up too.
and remember, we are suppose to have fun here. not make this internet highschool cafeteria drama.
this is long as hell, most probably didn't read this, and that is fine. but if you did, could you just reflect on yourself? think about what you do affects people and how they are going to react. personally, i totally am. i have definitely screwed up before and am going to work on being warmer towards everyone.
this is a place for community. let's be a kind and loving community for others, and remember how much our interactions make an impact on others' lives.
