I am the girl with the broken heart. It was late August when I first laid eyes on him. He was handsome. Voice like velvet, eyes the color of the purest honey, lips as soft and pink as rose petals. It was those eyes I should have paid more attention too. But, of course, his beauty blinded me. His true nature hidden within. A terrifying truth... One that I would have never guessed was real. He was a werewolf. A child of the moon. A shape shifting monster that I thought only existed in books and movies. 'Humans are naive.' He told me when he shared his gift with me. This is the story of how I fell in love with the beauty and killed the beast...
I remember everyday detail of when we met. Me and my friend Lily were catching up over a coffee. And he had walked in. It seemed like right then and there time stopped. Like he was the only being in the entire world. He smiled our way as he waited for his coffee. And being girl's we squealed and giggled and commented on how cute he was. For the rest of the day his eyes were burned into my head. I couldn't shake the feeling that his smile was meant for me. When I told Lily this and she laughed it off. Said it was 'wishful thinking'. As the days went on I saw this boy, man, God, whatever he was, he was everywhere. He noticed me too. His eyes never left my face. And even when I turned away away I felt his eyes follow my every move. It was exhilarating! Never had I caught someone's attention for so long!
Finally, one day when I was sitting in the same spot when I first laid my eyes on him, he made his move. He was lithe, like a jungle cat stalking it's prey. Again, I thought nothing of it. I hadn't been paying attention to my surroundings. My eyes had been pasted to the window in search of Lily. She was running late. He slid up to my table with such fluidity that I didn't realize he was there til he slid into the seat across from me. I started and swallowed hard. A small easy smile played at the corner of his lips.
"Is this seat taken?" His deep rumbling voice came like a melody to my ears. I wracked my brain for something witty to say. "Not at the moment." He chuckled at that. I felt like an idiot. "Well, I saw it wasn't occupied, but it looks like you were looking for someone?" His eyes glittered with amusement. I fought the urge to lick my lips. He was so delicious looking! Evenly tanned skin, dark brown hair, full looking lips. "Uh... yeah. My best friend Lily is supposed to be here." I mumbled into my coffee cup. "Do you mind if I keep you company til then?" He smelt so yummy. Something dark and exciting. I nodded dumbly, intoxicated by his scent.
We talked for about an hour before Lily showed up. She gave me a surprised look when she saw who I was sitting with. He smiled at her and she practically melted. "Excuse me," he said, standing, Lily slid past him. "I have to go. But I would love to talk to you more sometime." He nodded at us both and then walked out of the front door. Both of us followed him out with our eyes. Neither of us spoke til he disappeared. "OM-Gosh!! What was THAT all about?" Lily prodded me. "I don't know." I shrugged, but couldn't wipe the smile off my face. "He just sat down and we've been talking ever since." Lily looked into her coffee. "Well! Lucky you that I was running late. Maybe next time you'll be late so he'll come keep me company." She wiggled her eyebrows up and down in a suggestive way that made me laugh.
That night when I got back to my apartment I couldn't think of anything else but him. I wanted to know everything about him. Where he was from, if he had a girlfriend, how long he lived here, if he had a girlfriend, what he was into. I laughed softly at the fact that I cared most if he had a girlfriend. All through the night he plagued my dreams. There were times where he was a wolf. Which at the time I thought was really strange. Even more stranger was how I knew it was maybe it was because of those honey eyes. They bored in to my soul. And in his wolf form it was like I could hear him speak in my mind. I was so startled the first time that I heard the deep rumble of his voice, that I twitched awake.
