Sophie was irrationally irritated at Sampson for a while. As she searched the web for supernatural cases, she could barely think straight for a better portion of her research. She was having to find all the places the Winchester brothers could possibly be and come up with a clever plan to convince them that it actually was, indeed, her. That's easy, she thought, gnawing on the back of her pencil; her eyes scanning the news article. I'll just tell them the truth; that some angel on my shoulder changed my vessel. The more she thought on that idea, the more it seemed too coincidentally easy. Why would Sampson go through the trouble of changing her outward appearance if she very well had a voice to speak. Sampson would have had better luck taking her voice from her.
The hours passed and a long list of possible locations were written out. Sophie gazed lazily out the window; it was the most time she had been researching since her days at Bobby Singer's house. She smiled inwardly as she thought about the cantankerous man who had been like a father to her. Sophie was just as excited to see him as the Winchesters and Castiel.
Soon, her mind adrift, her eyes began to strain. Despite the unfamiliar reflection staring back at her through the window, she still found herself smiling. Sophie had always been talented at looking at the brighter side, even if the odds where against her. At least she had her memories, and she could thank Sampson for that much. Though the spell was a bump in the road, he could have very well forced her into Heaven, yet he hadn't. Sampson had given her a choice, even if the task at hand was difficult.
The sun was setting and Sophie figured it was in her best interest to start her journey. The first place on her list was two states over in Ohio where there had been some unexplained murders. It seemed like it was up Sam and Dean's ally; hoping that she would get lucky and find them there.
The bell above the door rang as Sophie exited the library. Soon after, followed another sound. A familiar one that she knew all to well: the grumbling engine of a 1967 Chevrolet Impala. Sophie's eyes widened a fraction as the black Impala drove before her eyes, the faces of Sam and Dean Winchester barely visible behind the slightly cracked windows; Led Zeplin's Black Dog echoing throughout the air.
Paralyzed, Sophie watched as the Chevy Impala continued driving north. It was if time had slowed as Sophie craned her neck to watch the car drive further and further away. She looked down at her list briefly, carefully reading each state name. Connecticut had not been written down and Sophie realized that they must have been driving through. This was a lucky break.
Sophie, without another thought, broke into a sprint in attempts to catch it. Unfortunately for her, Dean was not one to follow the speed limit and had quite the trouble keeping the tail lights in sight. The Impala swerved to take a left handed turn, disappearing from Sophie's sight completely. Her heart was racing, and she quickened up her pace to continue her efforts in catching the car.
She was losing oxygen and a painful stitch in her side crippled her. She winced, slowing her pace to a trot as she rounded the corner; the Impala completely gone from her sight. She couldn't properly frown as she doubled over, hands on her knees trying to regain her breath. "Curses," she panted.
"You wanna tell us why you're following us?" A voice asked.
Sophie jerked her head up, meeting the eyes of the long hair, six-four giant and his older sibling. Her mouth hung slightly agape, slowly straightening her posture as the two brother's stared narrowly down at her small figure. Sophie felt tears prick at her eyes, taking in their appearance one at a time. Dean looked older, bags under his eyes and stubble along his jaw. In fact, the passionate hunter looked miserable and worn, as if lack of sleep and some kind of emotional trauma left him bitter and cold.
