The novel you are about to read is a work in progress. What I am posting here is the raw, unedited draft – complete with typos and mistakes… The finished project will be vastly different. I started this project in 2011 and it stopped working on it abruptly to let it cook for a while…
While I’m writing a much better version, you can read the old draft while the new one is being completed. Essentially, you get to read a version free, and if you liked what you read, you can purchase the complete polished version from book retailers everywhere.
I begin writing this before I wrote and published my first book. The writing is far from my best… but there’s a story here, kids. The title is a working title. And again, I stress this is a very rough draft, cringeworthy (at least to me) to read in some places, but I thought this would be a fun way for you to read a developing work, and then read a finished product.
Enjoy...
Chapter Four
“I don’t think I like her.”
“Why, because she’s sick? That’s really shallow, Agnes.”
“It’s not that.” Agnes blew cigarette smoke out of the dorm window.
“People can see that from outside, you know.”
“I don’t care.”
“Our housing is non-smoking.”
“I’m eighteen, I can do what I want.”
“No, you can’t just do whatever you want.” Danny was highlighting passages from a book.
“Mr. Wright’s got your head all fucked up.”
Danny looked at her. “Don’t disrespect that man.”
“Well, it’s true.” She put the butt out in an incense holder. “You’re all books and fairytales now.”
“Books and fairytales?”
“You eat up all that crap he says in class like it’s gospel. You never want to do anything fun anymore.”
“If you think hating on everything is fun, then you the one’s sick.”
“See, you don’t even get it. You don’t even know what I’m talking about. You have no idea what fun even is. You don’t even get stoned anymore.”
“We’s gotta pass drug tests, girl.”
“There’s ways around that.”
“I’s sick of lying and pretending.”
