I trudged along this road that once had so many cars, now fallen into disuse. My name is Isaac, a normal boy that was forced to live like a homeless man like so many others. A virus emerged two years ago that no medicine or antibiotics could handle. So many people died, at the peak of the outbreak, thousands could each day. My family was one of them. I was sent to live with some with foster parents but they too fell to the plague.
The night before they died, I ran away to my friends house only to find they had left to other countries not affected as badly as this one. I discovered later that the country was on quarantine and everyone detected with this virus had to stay in the country. Everyone was issued gas masks because the virus spread by air at an alarming speed. I was sent to another family but once they and their son started showing symptoms, I ran away from that place.
I heard of their death a few days later. I began stealing to survive and I was surprisingly good at it. I have never been caught. Never. A year later it was announced that the government had finally managed to develope a vaccine and it was issued to everybody all over the world. I didn't need it. A few people were immune to it and I just happened to be one of them. That was probably why I didn't die along with my family.
All of that happened two years ago and this place was still depopulated with only a few walking around the street. People still caught it today but numbers are much fewer than on the initial outbreak. Everyone still wears gas masks everywhere. I was fourteen when I had to live on the streets, a boy with a gun, walking alone on the streets.
