Je suis- I am
Tu es- you are (singular informal)
Il est- he is
Elle est- she is
Nous sommes- we are
Vous êtes- You are (plural you or formal you)
Ils/elles-They are.
Elle and elles are feminine therefore they are to be used for girls, and il and ils are masculine therefore they are to be used on boys. If there is one or more boys in a group of people, then you use « il » but if it is only girls, you use « Elles »
