At work I felt free I had a job at a music store where I would fix phones and help sometimes as a cashier. I worked extra hours almost everyday just so I wouldn't have to go home to my mother who sometimes suffocated me with all her comments. One day a guy around my age entered the store , he was wearing a grey shirt, black pants and a denim jacket .

The instant he entered the store I couldn't keep my eyes off him . At first I thought maybe I just liked his style since it was similar to mine but it wasn't his clothes I was looking at , it was his blue eyes and curly brown hair.

He wondered around the store for a few minutes until he finally picked up a vinyl and made his way to the cash register.

Every single step he took towards me made my heart stop and I felt like I would faint in any second .

He then paid for everything and smiled as I gave him his purchase. I smiled back avoiding any eye contact and pretended to fix a phone . As soon as he left I let out a sigh in relief and realized I had been holding my breath .

That night once I got home I took out my phone and searched for Marlene's phone number after two years of no contact I texted her a message that read " I am gay " .

The next day I received no response , maybe her number had changed or maybe she didn't care but being able to say it to someone made me feel a little but more free .

I was heading to work when I felt my phone vibrate . I quickly took it out of my pocket and answered . " Hello" -I said waiting to hear the voice I had not heard in a long time.

" So , who is the lucky guy "- Marlene said in a sweet voice .

I laughed and talked to her for about five hours . I confessed that she was the first person to know and she motivated me tell my parents whenever I felt ready .
