A couple of days later, another tiresome school day began.
The day dragged on and when I thought it would never end, I heard the lunch break bell.
We got our stuff and headed for the cafeteria for the glob they gave us as lunch. I wonder who really eats the crap.
In the hallway, I saw him and our eyes locked for a minute and he winked.
I felt like I was struck by lightening. I felt different, so full of awe! I knew that I had got it bad and in my mind I tried to fight it. But hell, it felt comfy.
Amy saw what went on and held on to me, propelling me towards the cafeteria before I could make a total fool of myself.
We got into our usual table where Amy was telling Toni about my encounter with Dylan while I listened uninterested.
I was thinking of him.
Next thing I know, I see him coming towards our table with some of his guys.
I was so much more than confused, it was like he materialized out of Amy's words or my thoughts. Hard to tell.
"Here comes the devil and his legion", Toni said.
Here goes, I thought.
"Hey", I heard him say.
"Hi", I replied. At that moment, I might have as well been drowning because I was virtually unconscious.
"I'm Dylan Sharpe, you are?"
"Krystal Lake", I floundered.
"These must be your friends", he said with a sneer. Amy narrowed her eyes at him. He continued, "I'd like to invite you to Burgers and Treats after school. How'd you like that?"
I heard myself say, "Very much".
His guys were leering at Amy and she was giving them a deadly stare. Such jerks...
"See you then, Krystal", Dylan said and was gone.
"What the hell", Toni said coldly, a bit too coldly.
"Are you really going?", he asked, with a please say no voice.
"Yes"
"He's not exactly nice"
"Seemed nice enough to me", I defended.
"Krys, I take back the bet of earlier", Amy said, "but please stay away from that guy. He obviously doesn't like us and he's a potential danger ".
"How?"
"I know a heartbreaker when I'm near one."
"I could go with you if you want," Toni suggested.
"I'll be fine. It's no big deal. I can take care of myself. Thanks anyway", I said.
I'll just go and honour his request, I thought, after all, it's not every girl that gets invited on a date by the Bad Guy! I mean so many hope he looks their way and he never does. Best I enjoy this attention while it lasts.
The day dragged on and it was finally recess.
I went with Amy to get stuff from her locker while we waited for Toni.
We had waited for what seemed like ages and I just had to ask, "Amy, what's keeping you?"
"You know its my mamma's birthday today and we all agreed we'd wear her gifts to us to make her happy. So, I have to wear the earrings she gave me for my birthday. And I can't seem to find them anywhere!" she replied.
