Sunday morning I woke up refreshed and with a song on my lips. I felt so joyful and cheerful and full of love for the world!
I splashed water on my face and brushed my teeth.
I skipped down the stairs, like Ohpal would, singing What A Wonderful World .I went straight to the kitchen where Mom was making breakfast. I hugged her from behind and planted a kiss on her cheek.
She was preparing the 'Lake Sunday Breakfast Special' made up of sunny side up eggs, bacon, waffles with maple syrup and whipped cream, baked beans and hot chocolate. It's kinda like a three course meal eaten at once.
It was a recipe created by my Granma Mae when she was about my age and it has become a kind of heirloom.
Funny combination, but really tasty.Next stop was the living room. Ohpal and Dad were sitting together. I ruffled Ohpal's hair and ran into Dad's arms.
"Looks like someone got up on the right side of the bed today." Dad said with a warm smile.
"This is very rare,"agreed Mom who has just walked in with breakfast.
"Oh, isn't today just beautiful? The birds, the trees, the air... All lovely!" I exclaimed.
"I know what's lovely, my drawing! It's of us all!" Ohpal added, showing me a picture she had drawn of our family. "Here we all are in our front yard. You Mom,and Dad. And me and Krystal! And of course, Lily."
At that, the beautiful Golden Retriever puppy raised her head and raced to me. She ran around my feet for a while and then sat down.
Mom announced breakfast and we all sat at the table. Lily nudged me with her nose and I gave her a piece out of my waffles. She wagged her tail thankfully.
"I know I haven't had so much time for you recently, Lily, but all that's about to change. " I told her.
"So, I wonder what's got my Krystal shining so bright this morning." Dad said. I wondered if he had seen anything the night before.
"Oh, nothing much Dad. I'm just seeing life from a better perspective today. "
"Hmm... That's good. I hope that happens every day." With his tone, it was obvious he had his suspicions but he meant no harm.
"Me too." I said, thinking of Dylan. It had all happened so fast and I was already so caught up.
Mom announced that Mrs Woods had called to invite us to church. I had forgotten about that, I thought.
After breakfast, we prepared and set out for church service.
***
We arrived at church a bit late, but Amy's Mom welcomed us with open arms.
We sat on the pew behind her family and she whispered to us " Peace of the Lord!"I waved at Amy and the boys and they waved back.
Service went on normally and towards the end, I heard Solo by Demi Lovato and sang along in my head, stupidly. Then I realized it was my ringtone.
I quickly walked out of the church to answer the phone –÷/but not before earning some disapproving stares from members of the congregation. I made a mental note to switch off my phone next time.
When I checked the caller ID and saw Dylan's name, my heart started to beat super fast.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Krystal. It's Dylan." Butterflies tickled my stomach.
"Good morning, Dylan. "
