Chapter 1: The Funeral
Hi, I'm Skylar (but most people call me Red), and today I saw my best friend being lowered into a grave.
Tears slowly streamed down my face as my best friend- who had been perfectly healthy 3 weeks ago- was lowered into her final resting place at 9285 Hornby rd.
After the burial, their was a small service to comemerate the loss of Annibel Waters. I and a few other people were asked to put together a few words. As I made my way up to the podium with puffy eyes and and my head held low, I took out the small peice of paper which had my speech written on it.
With a croaky voice striken with grief, I said "Hello everyone, Annibel was..." I trailed off.
Across the small room, stood a really familiar face, but I couldn't see properly without my glasses.
I snapped myself back into reality and continued reading.
"Annibel wasn't just a daughter or a sister....I'm sorry, this isn't me" I said as I slowly lowered the tear-stained paper.
"I don't want to say how I loved her or how she will be missed. I want to remember how she lived, not how she died. Annibel was my best friend and I told her everything. She was loving, funny, outgoing, kind, and a die-hard Lovatic".
It just came to me, I lifted my head in shock to recognize the familiar face as Demi Lovato.
I hid my shock and continued, "Annibel spent hours, writing on her many blogs, planning out her tweets and listening to music. You have no idea how much she loves music, not any of that mainstream pop music, but deep and meaningful music with powerful lyrics to back it up".
I took a moment to breath and release a couple of tears. "And finally, I hope no one here will ever forget Annibel, or her loving nature. I love you Annibel and you will always be with me in spirit".
I looked up and saw every single man and woman, crying. I think I did Annibel justice with that speech, she will never be forgotten. Honestly, I didn't know where the boost of confidence came from.
I headed back to my seat in the front row next to Annibel's parents, Jessica and Rose. Yes, 2 women, lesbians, it's 2014, get over it.
They both gave me a short but meaningful hug before I sat down. A few more speeches and a lot of tears later, the service came to a close.
I was walking out of the funeral home heading to my car when I heard a seemingly loud "hey".
I was quite startled and dropped my coffee cup and small bundle of cards and papers. The coffee spilt all over me and the papers went everywhere.
Frustrated, I began to collect everything up, ignoring the fast clicks of heels behind me.
As I reached for the last paper, a hand slipped under mine before I could touch the paper.
"Here, I got this one" a girls voice said kindly. I stood up slowly with my papers.
"No, I don't need your...." I stopped in the middle of my sentence. "uh, hi. Sorry" I said as I brushed passed Demi Lovato hoping she wouldn't say anything further.
I am not one to associate with a person who could expose me to cameras or groups of people. Yuck, people.
"First of all, you forgot this card that I picked up. Second, I made you dump your coffee all over that beautiful dress" Demi said.
I stopped ignoring the 'fake' compliment and turned around quickly to get the paper. I came face to face with Demi, bumping into her.
"Sorry! I didn't know you were going to turn around so fast" she laughed.
I gave a quick smile, one of those awkward ones and "sorry, I didn't mean to".
"no need to aplogize, it was my fault. Let me make it up to you with another coffee and I will definitely be paying your dry cleaning as well, sorry" said Demi.
