The Merrell family walked to the car teary eyed. Vanessa was huddled close as they opened the door. Veronica was about to sit in the front seat until Vanessa asked if she could sit with her in the back. Roni said she would and they quickly got in back while their dad got in front to drive.
"I still don't understand how this could happen!" sobbed Vanessa. "She was such a nice lady. I could tell her anything and she would
always give the best advice."
"Well, she lived a good life. I feel the same way. At least we have each other," Veronica said trying to comfort sister.
"Yeah, I guess. Also, Roni, what happened to your shirt?"
"I spilled coffee on it when I ran to the hospital to check on Grandma Uno."
The ten minute car ride felt like hours for Vanessa and Paul, thinking about all that happened. Veronica thought continuously thought about everything hoping what she did was enough to make her sister turn to her for everything. Their mother was out of the picture and their dad, well he was a guy so it was awkward asking him for advice. Roni prayed that this could be her chance to win her sister back.
They soon arrived back at the house. Vanessa was so devastated that she just went straight to her room and didn't come out for dinner. Veronica and Paul are dinner together in silence, Veronica thinking about what she did and Paul about the death of his mom.
After dinner, Veronica left to go check on her sister. She felt a little bit of remorse but she desperately wanted her sister back. As she got closer to the door, Veronica heard Vanessa crying so she decided to knock. She waited a second but didn't get a response so she touched the doorknob, twisted it and went inside.
