The room was dark, with only the light from a crack in the doorway. It was silent, but this was not a good silence. Zoe was in a bed on the far side of the room sleeping softly. She sat up and reached for her phone. She could smell the odour of alcohol and her nose wrinkled. Her head felt as though she'd been hit with a mallet and all she could think of was the past nights events. It was a thought she never wanted to go back to and as she looked around the room, and she too felt cold and dark, as though there was nothing left in the world to live for.
Zoe was a 16 year old girl who lived in a flat on the north side of Manchester. She had long flowing hair with bright blue sparkling eyes. Her pearly white teeth made even the most unhappy people smile and she always took pleasure in helping people. She lived with her mum and her sister Anne. They were a normal family in a normal city until that night.
Anne and Zoe staggered home holding on to each other as trying to avoid hitting lampposts. Just as they reached the doorstep, a cold blast of air hit them with surprising force. Then came the laughter ; the most shrill laughter either the of two young adults had ever heard. They turned to see where the laughter had come from, but saw nothing. "What was that?" Asked Zoe, scared by the prospect of what might be out there in the darkness. She received no reply and turned to see a knife producing from Anne's stomach. She had no idea where it had come from, but the words echoed in her head."Your next," whispered the sinister voice.
