Zoe got up to find that her mum was still in bed. After the ambulance had arrived and the medics had tried to keep Anne alive, they could see no reason to keep up her oxygen supply. They decided to cut her off life support. Zoe's mum and Zoe were sobbing quietly in the corner for hours until they fell asleep. She doubted that her mum would be up for another few hours yet, even though it waspast 10 o'clock.
While most 16 year old children may have been scared at this point, but Zoe wasn't. She'd been raised in an area where crimes often occurred, and even though murders where rare, Zoe was too busy feeling upset about the loss of her sister.
She decided that the best thing to do was to see if her friend Julie had heard the news. This was not because she wanted sympathy but because she decided that she didn't want to sit around the house all day. As she set of, she could hear the noise of the wind whipping against her ears and the cold numbing her feat. When Zoe arrived at Julie's house the cold was practically biting her toes off. She knocked on the door quietly, but received no answer, so she decided to let herself in. The door was open and she found herself wandering through the kitchen. She called up the stairs and one again found no answer, so she went into the bedroom. After a later search of the whole house, she found that there was no one in.
When Zoe arrived back, she found that her mum was up, and talking to Julie's mum in the kitchen. "I've just been round to Julie's," explained Zoe, "you wouldn't know where she is would you?"
To Zoe's surprise Julie's mum starting crying hysterically and rested her head on the table.
