With it being the third day in a row of just continuous pouring rain was causing waves of drowsiness to run through my bruised body.

The old log cabin I had been staying in ever since the very first storm came rolling over this section of Georgia was darker than normal, and some cracks in the ceiling and walls caused some rain water to seep through and fall onto the old floor.

Ever since the beginning of this Hell that had risen, I had been keeping track of the days and months since I wasn't willing to lose time. It makes me feel content when I know whether it's a Monday or a Friday, a holiday or my birthday. Not only my birthday, but the birthdays of everyone I lost that I loved, including my deceased parents, my lost brother, and my few best friends.

Currently, it is the month where all it basically does is rain, storm, flood. It is the month where rainbows form in the sky and flowers bloom all around.

April.

Also, the birthday month if my missing older brother.

"I know your dumbass is still out there," I whispered. My light blue eyes were focused on the little raindrops rolling down the window, and I swallowed another spoonful of applesauce. "Who am I kidding? I mean, you're probably still alive. You were in a military force before the outbreak."

A quiet chuckle escaped my lips as I filled my spoon with applesauce again.

"Now I know why all of those other people call me crazy. I'm talking to the sky! Well, more to myself now that I think about it," I said, finishing off my applesauce and tossing the small container somewhere in the room. "Oh well. They don't know what I've gone through."

A cool rush of wind came through the window screen and goosebumps scattered my arms and legs. I shivered and stood on my feet, before placing my gaze back on the striking lightning outside.

A small smile played on my lips as I grabbed the thin blanket from the couch and wrapped it around my small form.

"Goodnight, Nathan."

The beam of bright sunlight caused my eyes to slowly open and I started regaining the energy to stand up. A yawn formed and escaped my lips, and I stretched my arms above my head.

A few pops and cracks sounded from my limbs and I let out a sigh.

That's when I realized it wasn't raining anymore.

Flipping onto my stomach and resting my chin on the arm of the couch all while staring out the window feet away from me, I groaned.

"Oh, are you done?" I grumbled. "You and your shitty ass storms can stay away for a while, Zeus. M'kay? Thanks."

Smirking to myself, I stood and grabbed my black backpack that I've had for years. It was filled with granola bars, small water bottles, some chocolates, and since I finished the rest of the applesauce earlier, the other thing aside from clothes would be a half-full jar of creamy peanut butter.

I unzipped my backpack and quickly skimmed through the small selection of clothes. I grabbed this:
