Cal steps forward. Dropping from the dais, he walks down a dim corridor. It blurs and shifts into an embankment along a river. He sees a young lady perched on the edge of a ledge overlooking the tranquil waters. She sits with one knee propped up against her chest, supporting her cheek as the other leg sways back and forth. She dips her bare foot in the water, ripples expand out eternally. Sunlight beams down upon the water's surface; the ripples disturb the water's reflective state, distorting images as it continues to thin out.
She sees Cal making his way around the broken ground to her. "I heard his call. Welcome home." She smiles and pats the stone beside her. He sits down and she places a hand on his cheek.
Cal closes his eyes at the soothing, warm touch of her hand, and he grasps her hand. "Thank you. Not a simple task, today. He encountered a low life imbecile attempting to injure him. I easily dispatched the idiot, but I grow tired of saving him. I find it exhausting to constantly step forward to resolve any issue he faces."
She retracts her hand and stares at his closed eyes. He opens his eyes and absorbs the vague emotions she portrays through her intense stare. "Is something wrong?" Cal asks as he takes her hand in his.
She pulls him to her and embraces him. "Cal, he needs you. You should know his concerns are greater than what you lower them as. He is learning his limits and you have yet to set a definite boundary for him. Teach him your ways and your needs." She brushes her lips against his. Cal pulls back. "What's wrong?" She asks. "Your words are meaningless."
"W-what are you saying?" She stutters, withdrawing her hands, slowly placing distance between the two. "This moment and others we've shared are far too rare. This sacrilege should not continue." He says as he stands. She brings her hand to her mouth as tears cascade down her delicate cheeks. "What have I done to promote these words, Cal?" She manages. "You're existence has encouraged these words. I must agree that they are heartless." He states, bluntly.
She leans back and crawls away slowly. "I am at fault for being foolish to believe you could bring me happiness." He shakes his head in frustration. "Cal, stop... Please..." Her tears pelt the stone beneath her, burning through as if it were acid. "You are but a figment of my errors. No creation can equal that of my beloved."
She rushes to Cal and clings to him, draping her head on his shoulder. "Forgive me! How can I atone for this?" Cal stands idle as she wails. Again, her tears burn through his tunic. She buries her face in his shoulder. He looks down at her and breaks away from her. She slumps to the cold stone and cries as her form wavers. "Cal, I lov..." Her voice trails off as her figure dissipates.
Cal grimaces and turns away, the area around him disolving into a barren field. He raises his head to the shadows that loom above him. "It would seem that you have won this one. I will have her, in time, my friend."
