Chapter 1
A silvery ghost galloped through a dimly lit forest. Above the undetermined figure, was a mesmerizing, rounded moon. As the ghost came closer, the outline of the figure transformed into a doe. The beautiful creature pranced around Snape. His greasy, black hair hung in front of his eyes as he watched the doe intently. The silver ghost gave off a feeling of tranquility and warmth, a foreign perception to Severus.
But the dream ended as quickly as it started.
Nine year-old Severus was back at his small, unkept home at Spinners End. During that dream, for the first time, Severus felt whole. That empty feeling inside his chest vanished and was replaced with a growing warmth that seemed to consume him. But, it was only just a dream.
"EILEEN." The rough voice of Tobias Snape rang through the room. Silence was all Severus heard.
Eileen's ear-splitting cry rang through the quiet household. Drug induced Tobias, had just struck at her. In the corner, Severus sat, his knees pulled up to his chest as he watched his father beat his mother. He was emotionless, never a flicker of fear crossed his face. He wouldn't give Tobias that satisfaction.
Tobias exited the house, slamming the door behind him. From the corner Severus sat, he could hear his mothers muffled cries. Severus traced the cracks in the floor absentmindedly with his finger. Hogwarts was only two years away. Two more years, and all this pain and suffering would cease.
Then Severus remember his dream. He wasn't the kind to believe in Diviniation but something about the dream seemed so real... It was almost as if he knew the doe, like they were old friends reuniting. But that was a preposterous thought.
Severus crept outside and wandered with no idea where he was going. He felt numb. The sun warmed Severus' cold, pale skin. Severus had always hated the sun, it teases you with the promise of happiness. Up ahead, Severus could make out the outline of a playground.
A child's laughter filled the air. He loathed laughter. Laughter was when the kids at school teased him for his greasy hair and filthy clothes. He heard laughter when his intoxicated father, Tobias, abused him. But this... This was pleasant.
He crouched down, hidden behind the brush of a hawthorne bush. He watched two girls play. One had a brilliant shade of red hair and gleaming emerald eyes, the other was taller with golden hair in a neat updo.
"Tuney watch!" The smaller girl held out her palm and conjured a pink flower. Tuney watched the girl in horror.
"Your a freak, Lily!" Tuney gasped.
"I'm not a freak," Lily frowned, "That's a horrbile thing to say."
"Get away from me! I don't want to catch 'freak' it's probably contagious!"
"I know what you are," Severus offered stepping out from the brush.
"We're you watching us?" Tuney cried in absoulete disgust.
"What do you mean you know what I am?" Lily asked curiously. Petunia's face burned red with rage.
"Let's go Lily. Mum told us to stay away from," Tuney eyes Severus' attire, "People like him." But Lily brushed Petunia away.
"What do you mean you know what I am?" Lily repeated.
"Your a witch." Severus said simply.
"I am not! What an awful thing to say to someone!" Lily grabbed Tuney's hand and started to retreat from Severus. He watched as the two girls vanished from sight. At this moment, Severus felt helpless.
