That night, the four of us break into Chris Jenning's office searching for signs of an affair.  Mary insisted on coming along, and doesn't seem the least put off about breaking in. As we split off to look for clues, Mary follows me.

"So now's probably not a great time to ask," she says, rifling through a pile of paperwork, "but the reason I came over earlier was to ask you something."

"What was it?" I ask, moving over to the computer and checking the documents.

"Would you like to be one of my bridesmaids?"

I look up in shock. I hadn't seen that coming. Who'd want me as a bridesmaid?  "Sorry?"

"It won't be chief bridesmaid, I'm afraid," Mary continues. "But it'd mean a lot to me and John if you could be a part of it."

While I don't go completely offline like dad, I do freeze for a moment. Nobody's ever asked me to do anything like that. After a few seconds, I look over and smile. "I'd love to, thank you Mary."

Mary grins back at me. "Brilliant!" She points a finger at me playfully. "No trousers though!"

"I'm sure I can survive for a day without wearing trousers," I smile back at her. "Thank you." She nods and we continue looking. Eventually, I find a file and pull up some pictures. "Ooh, that's interesting."

Mary comes over to look. "Oh."

Looks like Chris had hired his own detective to keep tracks on Sabrina, and the detective found she was having an affair with a woman.

"She must have known he was onto her and got us involved to sort it out," I realise. "Chris isn't having the affair at all, but she knew he had the pictures."

John and dad walk in. "Found something?" John asks, coming over. "Hm, I was not expecting that!"

Dad comes over and looks, then frowns at John. "Weren't you? The signs were obvious from the moment Mary joined us."

John frowns. "How d'you mean?"

"Sabrina unconsciously showed signs of attraction towards her," dad explains. "I've seen those symptoms before when women have looked at me. It wasn't a difficult leap." I bite my lip to stop myself from laughing. I don't even think he realises how arrogant that sounded. "I didn't take the case because I was feeling romantic, as you assumed John, but because I wanted to know the truth behind their marriage."

"Why?" Mary frowns.

"Well why would a lesbian marry a man?" I point out. "She's clearly unhappy and she's found someone else, so why not break up?" Time to ask her ourselves.
