The rescue team arrived on scene. The firemen were able to free the brothers and had them transported to the hospital. James got a severe gash on his left arm and had to go to surgery to have it cleaned up, stitched up and covered. They left the hospital and soon got the dreaded news. Their parents didn't survive the crash.

This devastated the entire family, especially poor James and Willie. The ordeal was very traumatic for the two boys because they had to see them die. The two brothers moved to Glastonbury and were enrolled in Hebron Avenue School.

They went to grief counseling and were trying to adjust to life in Glastonbury.

There were funeral services in both Pelham and CT. Everyone that the boys knew, that was alive anyway, attended.

A memorial was put on Breezy Point, New York in Jeanne and Joseph's honor.
