The Girl in the Boys' Dorms - Chapter Two: Bailey, the wild animal in the boys' building zoo. Lucky, lucky me.
I felt my heart lurch and slip into my stomach as I stared at the guy standing in front of me. He looked absolutely livid; his could-be soft green eyes alight with fury, his lips drawn into an unpleasant sneer. Shifting his glare from Mrs. Turner to me, he allowed his eyes to run up and down my body, only pausing briefly on my face, which was probably red as a tomato by now.
"What are you doing here?" He demanded harshly, leaning against the doorframe as though to deny us entry. "I was sleeping, and you've interrupted what could've been a wonderful day." As he said the last part, he glowered particularly at me, before facing Mrs. Turner again.
"Yes, I'm sure if we hadn't come, you would've spent the entire day lazing around in your bed. Well," Mrs. Turner huffed, pushing past Chase and sauntering into his room. "I apologize for the inconvenience, but we - " she beckoned me into the room after her, " - need to have a word with you."
"Let me guess," he drawled, his voice the epitome of uninterested. "She - " he pointed a long finger in my direction, " - has a complaint about something I've done to her - which I seriously doubt, because I've never seen this girl in my life - or a complaint about something I did to one of her friends, or - "
"How about I just tell you what we need to talk to you about, Chase?" Mrs. Turner interjected, the expression on her face tired and annoyed. "Bailey is being forced to transfer dorms, and because every room in the girls' building is full, she'll have to take one in the boys' building. Unfortunately for her, you're the only one who has open space - so she'll be bunking with you for the rest of the year."
By the time Mrs. Turner was finished explaining, Chase looked as though he was ready to punch his fist into the wall. Whipping his head around, he gawked at me, and I caught the glint of disbelief in his emerald irises. "You're not serious, are you?" He spluttered, smiling slightly like he thought the whole thing was one big prank.
I shook my head, still avoiding his no doubt furious gaze. "N-no. I-I need a place to stay... And this is the only - "
"You couldn't find anywhere else to be?" He growled angrily. "Out of the entire boys' building, you had to stick her with me? And without even asking me first? That's just wrong. Maybe if she was attractive - "
And there it was. I knew that at some point, Chase would realize I wasn't exactly a supermodel, and would proclaim that to the whole world. Perhaps if I was six feet tall and bulging with curves, he wouldn't mind having me sleeping in the bed next to his every night. But I was barely five-foot-six, and I didn't have an hourglass figure. Of course, Chase was the player on campus - he would love to have a girl right next to him, ready to do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. But again, I wasn't going to live up to his hopes or his expectations - the most he would get would be help on his homework.
I avoided Mrs. Turner's understanding look as she continued to argue with Chase, trying to keep him from wounding me too much. That wasn't an easy feat, though, seeing as how Chase was determined to express every complaint he had about me - ranging from my appearance to my personality. Apparently, he didn't want "a geeky chick who does nothing but read" in his dorm. I took a step back from to two of them as they yelled at each other, and instead, began to take in the lay out of the room.
It was just like mine had been - but messier. The two beds that had been crammed inside were both tousled and unkempt, as were the two desks, which both had papers and pencils strewn over them. The couch in the corner, which faced the TV mounted on the wall, was piled high with laundry, and a stack of DVDs littered the floor around the television. It seemed as though Chase had left nothing untouched, and had made ample use of it all. Even both the closets had been claimed by him - one full of his clothes, and the other heaped with sports equipment.
