music hummed lowly in miles' earbuds as he rested his head against the padding of the car door, his eyes wandering as they met the landscape flying past the car as the group of councilors drove down the slightly bumpy road. loud laughter erupted from the boy next to him, his obnoxiously bright blue hair coming into view as he leaned forward, causing miles to roll his eyes and let out a small, frustrated sigh in annoyance. it's not that his laugh itself was irritating - he actually quite liked the sound - but it's that his head would not stop painfully pounding since the seven climbed into the rather large vehicle, causing him to want to leave already, being the extra sounds coming from the others with him didn't help the pain subside.
a few seconds passed before an earbud was ripped out of his ear, causing the annoyed look to grow on miles' face as his head snapped to the direction of the boy next to him - ethan, he thinks his name was. the expression spread across his features softened at the sight of the boy's appearance just a bit, unsure what he wanted. miles cleared his throat once he realized he's just been sitting there, staring at the boy in front of him without mumbling a word, finally deciding to speak up.
"um, what- what was that for?" the anger inside him seemed to disappear before the words left miles' lips quietly, almost as if it was whispered. he cleared his throat a bit, hoping it would help with the volume of anything that came next.
"oh, i just wanted to ask if you were alright- you seem a little quiet," ethan replied quietly, too, trying not to cause a scene in the vehicle. the look in his muted eyes seemed genuine, which softened miles' gaze even more, his lips pursing as a bit of a crimson dashed his pale cheeks.
"i'm-i'm fine, yeah- no worries," the boy smiled small at the one he was facing, practically thanking him with a look. he smiled back, allowing their eyes to hold contact for what felt like eternity - almost as if they were memorizing each other's features - before ethan snapped out of his fixed expression as he began to quickly nod. he turned his head back to the others in the car and leaving miles to himself once again. his teeth met his bottom lip as the fading blush grew, spreading like a wildfire throughout his face.
miles was caught by surprise as the camp sign sped past the window, only appearing for maybe a second before the packed car drove over a bumpy bridge, which sent a small wave of panic though him. the ride lasted for only a bit longer before they finally reached the camp, before the brunette could get out and breathe fresh air again.
'finally,' he thought before stepping out of the vehicle, 'we made it.'
