The sun is getting ready to get into the "sunset" position just as an officer dressed in Navy blue knocked on my door. It couldn't be, was this real? Colors of red, white and a side of some blue cover your glossy black death bed. "I'm sorry I let you down and I'm sorry I couldn't do more." She whispers to the folded, soft colorful fabric.
It's been three years and she still goes back and read their letters to each other. She knows you're still here and you'll never fade away. She can still hear your soft and caring voice saying, "carry on if I don't make it" and she can still hear all of the songs you played on your soothing, mesmerizing guitar for her.
"Pray for me because it's now been 12 years" she cried out. She's 32 years old and has everything she could ever want but, you're still not there and her eldest son wants to follow in your footsteps. "I don't want to crush his dreams yet I can't stand to lose another family member" kneeling down by her bedside she continues. "I've dreaded this day for a long time. We live in a nice place with lots of space and decent cars."
"His girlfriend is truly amazing and I can tell he's just as caring as you were, I miss that the most about you brother." She's fallen to her knees once again, she knows they're young but, they're expecting and his father and her are supportive. She only wishes her little boy could meet his uncle.
Silently laying in bed she's thinking again. "Hey, conscience don't lose me and hey self you're going to be okay." A tear falls as she curls into a ball. "This was only a terrible thing in a nightmare that won't ever come true because you my brother, are a fighter and you'll make it." Weeping in her husband's arms she whispers "Semper Fi."
