Chapter 5:

I ran as fast as I could. I ran past all the screaming kids and the wandering elderly patients. A few minutes after I was running, I heard something clatter on the floor. I stopped and picked it up. It was my contact lenses case. Oh, right, someone must have taken my contacts out. Then I realised I was meant to be running away, and I suddenly started to run again. Where to, I had no idea. I thought about all the possible options I had:

Auntie Sue -

She was my mum's - not Linda's, my real mum's - best friend. She was always so pleased when Mum used to bring her over, since she didn't have any kids of herself, and had always wanted one. She didn't have a husband, but she had many many boyfriends. My mum and her would talk for hours on the phone about what Liam or John or someone else did. And there was someone different to talk about every month. Yet whenever she broke up with someone, she never cried, like me. She used to say, "Katie pie, no boy is ever worth your tears. A girl's tears are as precious as diamonds, so you should always keep them safe, behind your eyes and never give any boy the satisfaction that he made you cry."

I never knew what she was talking about, but now I do, though I still cry. It's just natural.

Jimmy -

He is Dad's boss. He actually lives quite close to here, but I think that option is out. I don't even think my dad knows that I'm in hospital, let alone me running away. Anyway, Jimmy would phone Dad as soon as I would show up on the doorstep. He would ask, "Kateline," he thought Kate was short for Kateline, "does Ross know about this?" Ross is my dad. Unfortunately, he's not a David Schwimmer fan.

Jess, Rose, Meg or Stace:

These four were my best friends, excluding Gem. Three guesses what they stand for, though four guesses would be more convenient. I'm sure they'd let me stay over at theirs. They may ask, however, why I wasn't staying over at Gem's. And I've barely been to theirs.

Jess -

She is a good person and would let me stay anyday, though her parents are really strict and wouldn't even let us close the door when we (us six) stayed over there once. After that, we decided it was better to NOT meet up somewhere where our privacy was invaded. Did they think we were lesbians or something?

That reminds me of a time when Gem and I were asked if we wanted to join them at McDonalds on the way from school, and we decided to just crash at my place instead, because we were so knackered after our maths exam. See where I'm going with this? Yes, they started calling us lesbians after that. Ah, I love my friends.

Rose -

Rose is an angel. She would say yes to anything, and I would feel like I'm taking advantage of her. Plus, we're not really that close; she's more of Stace's best friend, and when both Stace or Gem or anyone aren't there, it's very awkward between us.

Stace -

Stace. I guess she's alright. We're actually quite close, and we have loads of laughs together. She even went to the same primary school as Gem and I. I would even go over to hers. Only problem: she lives two doors away from Gem. Which is inconvenient, since I'm trying to run away, not get caught.

Meg -

Meg is, well, a gossip. No offence or anything, but she just can't keep her mouth shut for two minutes without having to tell us about the latest bitch in the school. Or sometimes she just talks about Jenni. Hang on, Jenni...

No, I couldn't. That would be like using her. And she was spreading all those rumours about me. Though that IS only because she thought I was kissing with her boyfriend. Major mis-understanding. Why the heck did all boys have to have to same spiky hairstyle? And we've forgiven each other. Everything is cool between us. At least, that's what she thinks. But I have nowhere else to go, and she is 'willing to do anything to get her bestie back'. Her words, not mine. Ah, fuck it. I'm gonna call her.

"Hello? Is that you Katy?"

I cringed. Only Gem called me Katy, and she was not Gem. "No, it's Kate. And listen, could you pick me up outside the little tea shop? On my road? I need somewhere to crash."

"Yeah sweetie. Oh my Gawd," she literally said 'Gawd', "are you okay?"

"No, but I'll explain everything to you when you get there. Meet me in ten, ok?"

"Ok then. I'm on it."

"Oh, and Jenni?"

"Yeah?"

"Thanks." I ended the call and sighed. I was going to be staying with my enemy. Too late now, I couldn't even back out.

My mind must have already knew what I where I was going, because I ran around the corner and saw my house. I should be saying home, but it was never a home. And never will be. I sighed again and proceeded towards it.
