Change Brings New Beginnings

It's been a week since I found out that blue hair girl lives opposite me. I was so busy with homework that I never got the chance to make conversation with her. I was only able to greet her in class which was returned by "Go away" or "We're still doing this?".

I was now heading to the office to change my subjects. History was just too much essays and was energy draining. When I told Rob, he was so glad to hear it since on Friday he had decided to already change History to Art and change Geography to Tourism. I was too lazy and decided to simply change it after the weekend.

When I got to the office, the secretary greeted me and asked me what she could do. I told her I wanted to change subjects. She helped me with the changes and by the time we were done, the bell rang.

It was lunch and I had already gotten my lunch. Rob wasn't here today. He was probably sick. I saw blue hair girl sitting at her usual table, alone.

I wasn't in the mood to sit alone so I decided, why not just try and talk to her again. I walked over to her and sat opposite her.

The usual stares and wide eyes were given as I glanced around. I waited for blue hair girl to say something.

"Go away." She said without even looking at me. She was again drawing something. I like the fact she's artistic, we might just get along great.

"What are you drawing?"

"Are you trying to repeat history? I thought that was the sole purpose of taking history: to not repeat mistakes from the past."

"Me talking to you is not a mistake."

She looked at me with a raised eyebrow. We held eye contact for three seconds before she continued drawing.

I watched her for a few minutes until I realised what she said.

"Wait a minute, how do you know I take history? Well, took history, I dropped it."

"Just because I am quiet, doesn't mean I don't listen to what's going on."

"So..." a smirk crept onto my face. "You have been eavesdropping on the conversations Rob and I had?"

She stopped drawing and her eyes went wide. I could see there was a hint of pink slowly flowing into her cheeks. It felt good getting an actual response from her. I stared at her and waited for an answer.

She took in a deep breath and sighed loudly. "No comment."

"Okay, I won't push it."

When I looked at her hands I saw her hands were badly bruised. When I looked at her arms I saw two more bruises.

I cleared my throat and had to pick my words.

"So, I've got Art after break... um, are those bruises?"

When I finished my sentenced her head shot up at me and her eyes were incredibly wide. She hurriedly packed up her stuff and left the table without a word.

Way to go, Benjamin...

It was after break and I was heading to Art which I had taken instead of History. I walked into the classroom and couldn't help but smirk.

At the back of the classroom, all alone and staring out the window, sat blue hair girl. I walked to the back and realized that there were two chairs at a desk. I sat in the chair next to her, but she didn't respond. I tapped her lightly on the shoulder and before I knew it she had my hand in a position, ready to snap my wrist.

She looked up to see it was me and instantly let go.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" She seemed pretty frustrated. I couldn't answer before she asked another question.
"I thought you were joking about having Art as a subject. Please tell me you are bunking class just to annoy me."

I opened my mouth to say something but the teacher called for attention.

"Okay, afternoon class. Today we'll be dividing into pairs of two and that will be your partner for this terms task."

I'm already starting to like art. This class has such an amazing atmosphere.

"Well then, I'm going to make it simply. The person that you are sharing a desk with is your partner. I'm not changing anyone because, I'm not in the mood for long stories."

Out of the corner of my eye I could see blue hair girl stiffen. I slowly turned my head to her and smiled.

"The topic for this term is Reflection in Art. You and your partner will have to get to know each other better. You will have to create an art piece of yourself. When you are done, your partner has to do an analysis of your art piece based on what you have shared with each other about yourselves. If you have questions, feel free to ask during class. You may do your task at home."

For the rest of the class, I just did some brainstorming while blue hair girl continued drawing. When the bell rang, blue hair girl packed her stuff up.

"Hey, can we hang after school? The sooner we start, the better."

I could see she was debating whether we should.

"Okay, fine. Meet me after school at the entrance."

"Cool. See you then."

I was waiting for her, when she quietly walked to me and nodded to start walking.

On our way, I couldn't help but look at the bruises on her left arm. I was getting worried and my mind was spinning like crazy with all the thoughts that kept popping up.

When we reached her house, I wanted to get my phone so that we could listen to some music.

"Hey um... I'm gonna go get my phone so that we can listen to music. If that's cool with you."

Her eyes lit up for a split second then returned to their normal colour.

"Yeah sure."

I ran across the road to my house and went to the yard.

"Wait, you live across from me!?" She yelled from her yard.

I just smiled at her and then turned to enter the house.
