~ First Year ~
Sam made her way past parents, guardians and families saying good bye to their children on platform 9 3/4, her trunk and her 8 month old all black kitten. His name was Binx, she got the name from a muggle movie called "Hocus Pocus". She made her way to the scarlet train known as the Hogwarts express. She climbed aboard and found herself an empty compartment, she put her trunk away and set Binx onto the spot next to her. She rest her head against the window and looked outside.
After a few minutes she heard the whistle blow, signaling the departure of the train. She continued to stare blankly out of her window, only looking away when she heard her compartment door slide open. Her blueish gray eyes looking the newcomer up and down.
"Uhm..hi...I was wondering if I could sit here with you... everywhere else is full..." asked a girl with brunette hair and chocolate brown eyes. Sam nodded and smiled a warm smile. She never has had many friends before.
"I'm Lisa Turpin." The girl introduced.
"I'm Samantha Snape. Or Sam." She smiled.
"Snape....I feel like I've heard that name before.." Lisa pondered aloud.
"My father is the potions teacher at Hogwarts." Sam said with a nonchalant shrug.
"Really!?" Lisa's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh Merlin! I wish that I~ had a parent who worked at Hogwarts!! I bet you know so much!"
Sam shrugged. "Meh. I know my way around the school, a few secrets, a couple simple spells and a bit about potions." "It really isn't that much though!" She quickly added, seeing Lisa look down at the floor.
"I don't know near anything!" Lisa sighed.
Sam felt bad, she's never liked bragging. "I only know the potions because of my father, and the spells are because I read all of this years textbooks ahead of time. A-And the school thing is partly because I read Hogwarts: a history, and the other part is because sometimes when I was younger, I would go and visit my fathers. He'd show me around.
Lisa was still staring at the ground.
"I'm sure you'll catch up!" "I'll show you around when we get to the castle, after the sorting. You'll know the castle as well as I do, and you'll learn the spells in class, and the potions I know, are super simple! You'll catch on quick! I can tell you're smart."
Lisa smiled, making Sam exhale a breath of relief.
They talked for a couple of hours, talking about their favorite things, memories, classes, hopes for the future, until they heard a sweet voice say; "Anything from the trolley, dears?" Lisa bought a liquorice wand and Sam got a couple chocolate frogs and a pack of pumpkin pasties for them to share.
They arrived at Hogwarts, and followed a giant named Hagrid over to some wooden boats. They sailed across the shining water towards the beautiful castle with sparkling lights coming from the windows.
All of the first years had gathered outside of the great hall, after a moment of waiting and some simple instructions, they followed professor Mcgonogall through the doors, past the long tables packed with students, and they all stopped in a cluster at the front. There was a wooden stool, and a tattered old hat, which Sam knew was the sorting hat.
She watched as multiple students had the hat placed upon their heads and got sorted into their correct houses.
"HUFFLEPUFF" It yelled to Wayne Hopkins and Susan Bones, one after another.
"GRYFFINDOR" It screamed to Hermione Granger.
The sorting continued, sorting people into all four different houses. Including Draco Malfoy into Slytherin, Anthony Goldstein into Ravenclaw, and finally Lisa into Ravenclaw.
It was Sam's turn.
She walked up, feeling eyes watching her. She sat on the stool and felt the weight of the hat be placed onto her head. There was a wave of whispers from the tables, apparently no one knew Snape had a daughter.
Hmmm. Very interesting. The hat said, inside of her head. Ambitious yes, definitely brave, a thirst to prove yourself. Kind. Ah. But here we are. You have a great mind. Hmmmm. Yes. Yes.
"RAVENCLAW" The hat yelled.
Sam got the hat pulled off of her as the table with bronze and blue erupted into clapping and cheers. She walked over and took a seat next to Lisa and Anthony Goldstein. She introduced herself to Anthony and some others, and turned her attention back up to the front where there was still students getting sorted. Her eyes found her fathers and she flashed him a smile. He smiled back and gave a nod before looking back to the sorting.
Sam sneaked back into their common room after showing Lisa all of the secret passageways and all the other things and places she knew around the castle, just like she had promised. Anthony Goldstein and another Ravenclaw boy in their year named Kevin Entwhistle tagged along, the four of them had become pretty good friends.
"What can travel around the world while staying in a corner?" The portrait asked.
Sam thought for a moment. "A stamp." The portrait hole opened. The four of them climbed in, said their goodbyes and went up to their dormitories.
She said goodnight as Lisa changed into pajamas and got into bed, falling asleep fairly quickly. Sam soon followed suit after a nice warm shower.
