Remorse

Eva pressed the palms of her trembling hands against her bare face as the sun rise greeted her with its rays once more. Another dreadful morning, or better yet mourning the embrace of a lover she would never feel again. Eva was mourning.

Mourning the love of her life- the only love of her life; she felt. That sort of passion could never come before her again...

Not because Eva searched for it. But, because she simply wouldn't allow it. Barry and her were meant for one another. A match from Heaven even. She ran fingers through her hair as she brought her knees toward her. She gaped out onto the view of the ocean. The home Barry and her thought they would live in till their very last breaths.

She will never forget that day. The night he never came home. The night that changed her life forever. Barry worked at a mysterious job. One she knew not so much about. She worked for a small graphic business from the comfort of the house. She drew and designed for clients within the business and organized the events.

Eva walked toward the balcony as she rested her head on her hand looking at the teal-ish blue and clear waves reoccurring over and over. Just as the memories that circled and spiraled in her mind as she gazed into the sea.

"Hey Eva! I have some friends I want you to meet, this is my friend Barry Cheliano. He's in my bio class in FEU-" I smiled briefly and greeted the other friends. But, every part of my focus seemed to be on the texts from my mother.

She was sick and with her rarely ever getting sick it bothered me. Honestly I don't understand why I came to Phillip and Claire's yacht party to begin with.

We'd be gone for the weekend and I needed to be back to at least be there for her. Phillip had been introducing me to his friends Barry, Fred, Gwen and Jenny.

I looked up from my phone met by a greet from my ex Lawrence. We were still the best of friends, no hard feelings between us. Jenny and Fred seemed to hit it off while Gwen and Claire ended up getting along pretty well. I approached Phillip and Barry whilst they engaged in conversation.

"Alright Phillip, but could you really not see that #2 was a way better goalie then when they placed #7?" Barry said sarcastically . He switched his gaze toward me and smirked a little.

"Hey Eva" Phillip greeted snapping both of us out of the weird moment.

I half smiled, honestly still tired from the previous work I had did to make sure I could qualify for the graphic design internship at Martin Interprise Corp.

"You wouldn't happen to know anything about soccer would ya Eva?" Barry asked laughing at the previous conversation.

I nodded, "Yeah I know a thing or to..." I trailed off.

"Barry, she actually used to play and after scor-" I cut him off nervously-

"No no no mentioning tha-" I laughed but was cut off by Barry's strange intrigue into finding out what I was so desperately trying not to have Phillip mention.

"She'd do a dance every time she scored" He bursted out laughing and I rolled my eyes. Barry shot another smirk.

"Did you dance-dance or did you just make a fool out of yourself?" He asked. I rolled my eyes at the comment and went to remove myself from conversation but they didn't let me leave.

Barry chuckled a little and smirked that smirk again. "Oh look there's a good song playing so I'm gonna go" Phillip said heading to the cooler.

I laughed a little nervously and nodded.

"Soo, have you decided a major yet?" I asked Barry.

"I'm thinking of law possibly but I'm already working in a possible career path.-" He reached for my hand as if asking to dance and without hesitation but just a bewildered laugh, I took his hand anyway as we went to dance by the peak of the boat.

We engaged in conversation for what seemed like the longest time. Talking about our fears, failures, ups and downs.

Towards the end of the night our stomachs ached from the laughter and the booze.

Our feet sore from the dancing.

Music embracing the atmosphere with no cares in the world. We danced close and laughed at eachother. Eating and just soaking in the moments and seconds that would become memories that we'd cherish forever.

I was able to take my mind off the worrying over my mother and college as I had what felt like the time of mi vida with the out going and ridiculously friendly Barry.

An attractive soul. From just that day I felt I could easily be myself around... He opened up a part of me that made me feel like something was missing all those other years.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Eva closed the curtain to the balcony as she headed back. Letting out a big sigh, she gripped her phone and dialed a number she hadn't dialed in what seemed like forever. She hesitated and let out another loud sigh. Reflecting on the night she met the love of her life. She looked around the picture frames of her home and frowned. Picking up the phone once more she called. Anticipating the sound of the familiar voice.
