When Tom arrived at the trenches it was completly opposite of what Clark imagined the trenches he thought were built of bricks with protection from the jerry s bombs. The view was there were open tunnels and there was bombing going on everywhere the trenches were full of mud and water and there were dead soldiers lying everywhere it was shocking to Clark. However Clark was a man of confidence and courage and he showed no care to the facilities. He met his battalion for the first time which was being led by lieutant Brian. The lieutant gretted him with water and gave him some snacks and he introduced him to the general and the colonel and then the Lieutant introduced him to the battalion. The battalion right then had a private trying to come back from no mans land whilst they were giving him cover fire the jerrys chucked a bomb near the major and the major was just saved by the lieutant who was completely aware of the situation.

The next day Tom was having a meeting with the colonel and the general and there he was ordered to move his battalion through the frontline and sttle into outerskirts of france which the germans took over and the leicestershire battalion the freancha battaliona and the new york battalion was going to lead it and they attack from three different positions and they all meet up at the same place and the orders were they had to hold the position until they got back up and royal air force to help them
