He put his hands up innocently, "Look Harp, I don't wanna cause any trouble-"
"Then leave," she nagged, cutting him off.
"Alright, then grumpy. Try not to miss me so much, Zelty," he said turning away from the trio. "Take care of my girls for me Luke," He joked while quickly turning back to wink at Harper as he began to stroll away.
"It's Lucas, you toolbag," Zeltzine muttered under her breath.
...
"Gosh, he really can't take a hint can he?" Lucas sighed.
"The thing is, we weren't hinting. I was being as blunt as possible," Harper stated.
"But you always talk blunt," Zeltzine added slightly confused.
"Ahh but you see, I was extra blunt this time."
Zeltzine grabbed a shirt off the clothing rack that she had looked through by now, 5 times. She put it up agained herself, turned to the nearest mirror in the store and drew her gaze up feeling unsettled. She was anything but serene with what she saw.
Interrupting Zeltzine's thought, Harper vibrantly declares, "Dude, you should definitely get that shirt,"
"Shh..." Zeltzine hisses without moving an inch.
"What? It looks good on you."
"Harper," Lucas pauses, "shut up." He grabs her arm and points to the glass window doors of the store where outside an alert is being broadcasted on the mall advertisement screens.
"ATTENTION RESIDENTS OF THE CIRCLE. THERE IS A RECENT OUTBREAK OF SICKNESS IN YOUR AREA. INFECTED RESIDENTS ARE AMONGST YOU AND ARE HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS. DO NOT APPROACH AND DO NOT INTERACT WITH THESE ONES. IF THEY ARE IN YOUR AREA CONTACT MALL OFFICIALS RIGHT AWAY. THANK YOU FOR YOU COOPERATION."
Zeltzine is the first to break the short yet prolonged silence with her brittle voice.
"Why are our faces on the screen?" She finally turns away from the screen and examines the the store and area around them. What feels like hundreds of eyes are all focused on them with horrified gazes.
"What the heck is going on?" Harper questioned. "Are we sick? I don't feel sick. I don't feel the slightest bit off."
The sound of fast heavy running feet suddenly was added to their overwhelming feeling of confusion. Actually, confusion was only ONE of the things they felt at this moment.
"Highly contagious my butt. We all just had our doctors appointments Wednesday, that was two days ago! Don't you think if we had something wrong with us the doctor would have, I don't know, told us?"
"Lucas is right," Harper agreed and turned to look at Zeltzine. "My doctor even told me that he didn't see anything out of the ordinary and that I was up to standards health wise."
"Yeah, I get the point but we need to get outta here as fast as possible," Zeltzine demanded.
The three scanned the area looking for the best possible escape route but all the doors seemed to be blocked by other citizens in the store. Eyes all around were still glued to them, not even blinking or looking away for a second.
"No matter what door we take, they're gonna see us so let's go out the back door through the employee break room," Harper suggested.
"Good thinking, let's go," Zeltzine urged as they started making their way towards the back room. "Don't turn back for ANYTHING.
