The Bet

I think that fate sometime chooses to hate you and sometimes chooses to love you. I also think that karma is a jerk. Fate decides what happens to you and karma decides what deserves to happen to you. I personally feel like they both have decided to hate me starting on the day I started my junior year in high school.

It was the first day of school and I was feeling confident in the new outfit that i was wearing. usually I just wear junkie clothes but my bestfirends sckered me into going shopping for a whole new wardrobe with them yesterday. I was wearing a light gray sweater with a black heart in the middle and it purposely went towards the side on one shoulder, light blue jeans with rips in the knees, and cowgirl boots. I put my hair in a waterfall braid with the help of my friends and Google.

I felt all of the blood rush to my cheeks in an instant when i heard a whistle from the guys jock group. All of the sudden I saw Alec, the captain of basically every sport he played, step out from the middle of their circle of friends.When i saw Alec the heat left because I knew it was just him. Alec and I were friends when we were little but by the 5th grade he because a player and stole my first kiss because of a stupid game of truth or dare at a party over the summer. That was the summer and the very night when alec and I became rivals, we have been teasing and pulling harmless pranks on each other. The whole school knows that we hate each other and they enjoy the entertainment.

"What a wardrobe change Jess!" Alec sneered circling around me examining my newly bought outfit.

"Oh poor poor alec. not being able to tear his eyes away from me for one measly second. I bet you couldn't go one full minute without looking at me." I dared him. This is usually how most of our conversations went. Nobody but us could feel the tension between the two of us. Even though we were close friends before 5th grade we both had a crush on the other one, but we were too chicken to admit it to anyone but our closest friends other than each other.

"What do I get if I can, huh?" Alec challenged, he was always a dare devil and he had gotten countless detentions.

"I'll give you.." I paused for a moment before a mischievous grin creeped it's way onto my face. "I'll give a deep kiss for however long you want it to last." I knew he wouldn't be able to do it so that's why I made that deal with him.

"Deal!" He got the timer ready and handed it to me so I knew none of his friends would cheat just to have him win.

"But..." I trailed, "it has to be just the 2 of us in the hall so that there is nothing to distract you." I loved to give him challenges he couldn't win.

"Okay we will meet by the adult bathrooms in this hall 10 minutes after first period starts." He made the place and time and i make the challenge, fair enough. We shook hands after that and headed our separate ways when the first bell rung.

My two best friends, Emma and Audrey, had been by my side the whole time and started babbling on and on about how stupid I was because if he did succeed i would have to kiss him. All three of us had the same first period and we sat three in a row so we would never get bored in history class.

The clock seemed to take forever to show that it has been 10 minutes since the class started. I glanced and Emma and Audrey and they looked worried. I gave them a reassuring nod before asking if I could go to the counselor. I didn't ask to go to the bathroom in case something happened to make it last a long time. I did not need my whole class thinking that I was taking a long time in the bathroom.

I headed down the hall and met Alec there with his phone out and ready with the timer all set. " Ready.. set... Go!" I began he looked away as the seconds passed by. Although he wasn't looking the people who passed us in the hall definitely were, as we had our normal type of teasing arguments and conversations without Alec looking at me. Alec's phone made a slight noise that made me jump a little as a grin of satisfaction crawled onto Alec's face.
