Taeyong held his notebooks firmly against his chest. Never before had he felt his heart beat so hard inside him. It was understandable - it was the first time he ever went out into the outside world and he had just made an eight-hour trip away from his home. It was a big jump, it was like confronting all his fears at one time, like being thrown into the fierce lions knowing that he would surely no come out alive. He reread the letter an umpteenth time:

« Divinity, high school for boys, Lee Taeyong, admitted into the first grade ».

Joining a new group was never easy, but arriving in the middle of the year in a place knowing nothing about it was again something different.

This school was built in the 1700s at the end of the old war that had pitted the great races of this world. To maintain the peace between species, schools such as this one had been built on different continents. The main idea was to bring the species together, getting them used to interacting and understanding each other. Any young creature with a sufficient mastery of its specificities had the obligation to spend three years in one of these schools, far from his family and his clan. Although it was a radical break, it seemed to work. No real conflict had erupted for more than three hundred years apart from the classic and inevitable incidents.

The school was huge, much bigger than anything Taeyong had ever imagined. He was watching the building that stood before him, excessively big, looking as cold as ice. So, was it here that he was going to spend the next three years of his life?

He closed his eyes for a moment, feeling his legs wanting to run away. Why had he looked forward to this day? He would have thought he had a little more courage and enthusiasm at that memorable moment. Yet it was all the opposite that occurred, he felt his legs were like cotton, his usually cold hands were almost shaking and his stomach turned. He wanted to give up but he knew it was impossible - he had no choice.

Taeyong shook his shoulders, putting his backpack in place before moving his shaking legs while he was jostled by the other students that were paying no attention to him. He would never have believed that there were so many creatures in the vicinity, and his big eyes did not know where to stop, seeing silhouettes, looks he had never imagined. Panicked, he preferred to rest his eyes on his sneakers to try to calm down.

"Are you the new student?"

A voice pulled him out of his thoughts, causing him to stop in his steps in the middle of the crowd of students that were in a hurry. A dark-haired boy was standing right in front of him, giving him a bright smile. He had quite short hair, and his eyes shone with mischief. Taeyong tightened his notebooks against his chest before swallowing.

"Oh, yes." He stammered without managing to hide his stress.

"My name is Ten, I'm in charge of taking care of you for your first day. Oh, and we are in the same promotion, you and me."

The dark-haired boy held out his hand confidently, probing Taeyong from head to toe, still smiling.

Taeyong was not used to physical contact in general, even worse, he had never touched another creature than those of his kind before that day.

He had no idea of the specie of the boy stretching out his hand, so he watched it for a few seconds before finally accepting. Too bad for the sake of caution.
