The tights knots and curly hair
The caramel melanin I so proudly wear
Unable to be an afro goddess or a straight haired queen
I sit in silence and contemplate everything
The wars going round
The lack of identity I long to be found
I am mixed race
but does that mean in this world I have no place?
"I am a black girl" I say with confidence , "you're not black ,stop that" they reply in anger.
I don't know what to be called
I sit there wondering who I am , appalled
Until the likes of Yara Shahidi,Alicia Keys and many others shed a light
One I prayed to guide me through this fight
It is not in the color of my skin but my heritage
It is not in the different texture of my hair but in my roots
I am Black, I am Human,I am mixed race, I am female but most importantly I am an individual.
