"Ew. Guys, get a room." I threw a pillow at my two best friends, Adam and Becky. They started going out for a few months now officially making me the third wheel wherever we go. I can't seem to put a pause on the romance they have. Can't we just be friends for once?
"What? It's not our fault you decided to invite us to your bedroom. It is a bed for crying out loud. What do you expect us to do? You indirectly allowed us to get our groove on." Said Becky, while rolling her eyes at me.
Adam laughed and nodded.
I audibly sighed and whined, "I seriously miss my old Adam and Becky. Seriously guys I don't know why I hang out with you anymore. Ever since y'all started dating I can't seem to get any attention from you too."
"Well why don't you get a boyfriend? You can get all of the attention from him and then we can double date. That way we are all happy." Suggested Adam.
"Soooo, what you are saying is that the only way that you two will hang out with me is if I get a man? And blatantly admitted that I would not get any attention from you? I feel like if you are breaking up with me" I teased.
"Well, I didn't say that we won't hang out with you if you are single. You might just enjoy yourself better if you had a date to..." he paused trying to figure out his next words. Becky shook her head and pitied him because she know that he was gonna get it.
I hit him over an over with my pillow while saying, "You're basically telling me to get new friends Adam!"
He turned to Becky and pleaded, "Help, ow! Please"
Becky snatched my pillow and tickled him instead as a punishment. We both know how weak he is to tickles. She stopped abruptly and calmed us down.
"No seriously though, even though bu was being a jerk," I gagged at Becky's new pet name for him, "He has a point. Why don't you have a boyfriend Eva?" She asked.
"What? Just so? Where did that idea come from?" I asked with no interest at all. 😑
"Eva, you are smart, funny, successful and cute. Girl you are much hotter than me it makes me love Adam even more." She squealed.
That caught his interest. He raised his brows. "What do you mean babe? You are so cute."
"Awww thanks babe. But what I mean is that if you was a guy who hooked up with girls just for their looks you would be with Eva. But you chose me and it makes me happy to know that you chose me for me. Gosh, I love you babe." Explained Becky.
I sat there and watched another make out session happen on my bed. Dis-gus-ting.
"Omg, look a spider!" I lied.
Becky screamed and jumped on the bed searching the room for the spider. When Adam scanned the room and saw that nothing was there he knew that I was lying. "Good one Eva"
Becky jumped down the bed and marched towards me handing me my phone.
"What do you want me to do? Call up some of my friends and randomly ask them out. Uhh no thanks." I responded.
"No. I downloaded Tinder on your phone, get a date." She read my uninterested expression. "I know, you don't want a man and you don't trust the app but it won't hurt getting to know soneone. You see the way that we look at each other, don't you want to feel that way too? It won't be another mistake like your ex. You are over him. You need to at least try."
Adam tried to encourage me as well. My ex may have scarred me into thinking that relationships sucks but it have not stopped me from looking at couples and wishing that I had what they had. I was not really looking for anyone but I believed that the right guy would find me. After all patience is a virtue.
"Alright, but I don't like that I have to be hunting down guys on some app. It feels wrong. I want him to come to me. I want love to find me." I defended myself.
It was now Adam's turn to get annoyed, "You want love to find you? Very funny Eva. Everytime a guy as much as looks your way, you shut them down. You won't allow them to get near you. How would you attract Mr. Chosen one if you chase everyone away?"
Becky agreed with him. "He's right. And Eva you don't have to date the guy you meet from Tinder. If you don't like the guy you can always try again. My cousin became friends with her Tinder date, she ended up getting a boyfriend and he got married. They are still good friends up till this day. True story."
I sighed. "Fine, but I want you guys there when I meet with anyone. Just in case I meet some psycho. Y'all can just be nearby making sure that I am safe"
"Deal" they both said in unison.
"Now show how to get this app to work."
(Eva's profile picture)
After Becky helped me create a profile, we started checking out some men's profiles for potential dates.
"Ok so swipe right if you like them and swipe left if you don't. If you like someone and they like you back it's a match! You can reach out to your match to start chatting" she explained.
"First of all, that app is wrong on so many levels. What is this, a catalogue? Buying dates? Secondly, how do you know so much about this app, you have Adam" I questioned.
"Babe don't look at me like that, we only started dating a few months ago remember. I knew Tinder before I met you. I don't use it anymore. And Eva, shut up and start swiping." She steamed.
"Okay okay" I responded.
We checked out some profiles even with Adam's help letting us know who seems player type from who seems legit. I like some profiles and waited on a response. About a half and hour later I started receiving notifications from the guys I liked.
"Omg that guy is sooo hot. I can't believe he is a match with you. I'm sure all of these men drooled all over your picture." Said Becky. I laughed when Adam raised his brow disapprivingly when she checked out one of my matches. Jake was his name.
While they made up I got a text from him.
....
Later that day, I agreed to meet Jake at a the new coffee shop that started selling baked treats and health smoothies. I always wanted to try them.
He seemed pretty cool. I mean, what can go wrong?
