"are you going out later?" i asked jacqlyn as i continued putting on my mascara.
"probably not. i'll be sitting here, doing nothing and waiting for you to get home so you can tell me all about your evening." she shoved what seemed like a million pieces of popcorn into her mouth at once, turning on the television.
"i still don't even know his name, jac. why didn't he tell me his name? how crazy am i to go out with someone who didn't even tell me his name?" after recent events that occurred earlier that week, the man from the cafe gave me his number, and called soon thereafter. however, when i went to add him to my contacts list, i had absolutely no idea what his name was. we hadn't discussed it. he knew my name, partially because we practically interrogated each other. for some odd reason, i never even thought to ask him what his name was. by the time i realized it, he was gone.
anyways, he had called yesterday to make plans for dinner. he said he wanted to get together as soon as possible so he could continue getting to know me.
"you do realize he was supposed to be here ten minutes ago, right?"
"so he's not very punctual. big deal. i'm constantly running late, so i can't say anything." i struggled to put my shoes on. once i got them on my feet, i stood up and looked at myself in the full body mirror, flattening my short red maxi dress against my legs.
"you look hot, cal." i smiled at jacqlyn, stole a piece of her popcorn, and just sat to wait. just as i (very carefully, might i add, as to not mess up my two hours worth of getting ready) sat on my bed, i heard a knock at the door.
i abruptly stood, carefully making my way to the door as i struggled to not fall on my ass in my five inch heels. he was definitely more than six feet tall, and i was a whopping 5'4, so i felt no shame. the only thing i did feel was myself getting top-heavy every thirty seconds.
i opened the door, catching glimpse of a dashing guy in a black blazer and a button down. i was scared if i looked down to check if he was wearing pants, i would fall over, so i gave him the benefit of the doubt.
"you look stunning, darling. i apologize for being late, the traffic getting here caught me." he smiled, outstretching his hand. i took it eagerly, grinning up at him. "shall we?"
i nodded my response as he intertwined my fingers with his own. we made our way outside and to his car. he opened the passenger side door for me before climbing in his side. "where to?" i inquiried.
"what's your favorite place to eat, love? your choice tonight." i felt obligated to choose a fancy restaurant, considering the formality of the evening and our attire, but i just really wanted a pizza. fancy restaurants' servings are too small and too expensive.
"how upset would you be with me if i suggested pizza?" he laughed, smiling that pretty smile of his.
"pizza sounds great."
.
next thing i know, we've arrived at some pizza place in town. we were one hundred percent overdressed to eat here, but i considered it was funny. once again, before i even got the chance to get out of the car, he opened my door for me. i stepped out and his hand found the small of my back, leading me towards the entrance of the restaurant. we sat in a corner booth across from each other.
"what's your favorite part about new york?" he asked after a bite of pepperoni pizza.
"honestly? i love the big city life. i love the constant buzz. what's yours?" i followed suit, finishing my piece before he got even halfway done with his. in my defense, he was too busy asking questions. and i was also very hungry.
