numbers chaotically appeared on the screen of the old computers. it was messy and everything made jimin have a headache. however, it was another situation for eun.
eun started hacking ever since she was her child, at first it was her mother's phone password, then it was the hacking into accounts, soon she was hacking into everything and anything legal and illegal, doing this was easy peasy for her.
and ever since school began this year, so many stuff had happened, homeworks, assignments, teachers, friends had all squeezed their way into her life. she just didn't have time.
so, this felt refreshing.
"is the computer infected?" jimin scratched his head as he approached the screen. "with what? a zombie virus?" eun asked, slightly smilling at jimin's dumb remark.
"no, she's hacking dumbass," jeongguk rolled his eyes. jimin tilted his head to look at jeongguk, trying to glare at him but the boy had his arms crossed and his eyes on the screen. jimin mumbled under his breath with a sulky expression.
the library was quiet, only the sound of clicking of the mouse and tapping of the keyboard linger in their ears. it was somehow satisfying. eun was no longer loud and annoying, jeongguk was no longer staring at jimin's ass and jimin was no longer concious of his face.
all their eyes focused wholly on the screen. eun's eyebrows entangled together after a few errors and she somehow found her cheek resting on top of her palm, "thats, weird?"
"what is?"
"the fact that theres literally no way for me to penetrate through the system? it doesn't seem possible for a normal working person to achieve this kind of security just for a cctv camera footage, you get?"
normal working person, huh? jimin looked at jeongguk with eyes that describes tiredness. his friend only nodded and shrugged, he turned his vision towards the small girl sitting in front of him, "you say the system the guy has is complicated, eh?"
eun locked her lips, complicated doesn't suit me.
"but the guy isn't even close to being rich, how does he get such a complicated security system?" jimin sighed, visibly distress about this situation. at this point, he isn't even afraid of jeongguk getting caught. hes afraid of the thought thats resting underneath all his other thoughts.
your dad sells body parts for a living.
he closed his eyes and turned around, his nails slowly shorten as it was placed in between his straight teeth.
"true, a normal person with a complicated security system isn't exactly a normal match." jeongguk said as he looked at jimin's blurry figure through his peripheral vision.
then it clicked. eun's eyes brightened up and she clasped her hands together and started entering codes.
jimin turned around and lowered himself behind eun to look at what shes doing excitedly all by herself. however he straightened up and backed away when jeongguk's shoe touched his knee.
the guy looked at his friend whom was staring straight at the screen and he smiled and shook his head, "lover boy," jimin stated softly.
jeongguk tensed up but ignored what jimin had stated anyways since eun was too engrossed in the numbers on screen and seems to not have heard his statement.
"you see, boys."
"we were talking about how complicated the security system is, and we let it slip through our minds that, indeed, the person who installed this security system is just a normal person."
"a normal person who probably got instructions from someone on the internet," with her buttocks still glued to her chair, she turned around to face the two boys.
"so, i've searched every browser using a bot in the last 10 minutes just to find a security system that has the same or similar pattern with the one this person has," she shrugged like this whole task was nothing compared to what she did before.
"and, just my luck," she turned around to face the screen and started to key in codes again, "because i found out the key to crack this system."
and with one last push against the keyboard, the screen brightened up with the colour green. a big tick appeared and slowly the green faded away.
"you did it!" jeongguk smiled widely.
"shut it for now, cowboy, i still have to delete your break in footage," she rolled her eyes. jimin sat down on a couch nearby, relieved. he looked at jeongguk and they locked eyes, "shes a keeper," jimin mouthed. jeongguk rolled his eyes at jimin but smiled warmly after.
•••
"thanks for everything, eun," jeongguk ruffled min eun's hair. she looked up and shook her head, a small smile outlining her thin lips, "its okay, you just owe me an explanation and also um the usual," she winked.
jimin raised his eyebrows in mischief and looked at jeongguk, clearly amused, "the usual, huh?" he said as his voice trailed off into a long distance.
jeongguk coughed loudly and saluted, "one bubble milk tea delivered to your house, less ice, normal sugar level with added pearls, sir!"
"at ease, soldier!" eun saluted back.
the whole school block was now filled with all their laughters, jimin looked at both of them and laughed as well.
i miss this.
i really do miss this.
