Chapter 1: Our Unknown Powers

"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP..."

"OH MY GOD! WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!"

"EVERYONE GET TO THE NEAREST BATHROOM OR LOCKERROOM!"

Yeah, my afternoon did not go at all how I thought it would. This afternoon and probably this whole day changed my life forever.

My name is Scarlet Fountain. I live in a medium size town. On the outskirts of town, there is a huge nuclear power plant. It makes our town look like a midget next to it. Even though my town is already a midget by itself.

The reason most people claim why my town is so small is that the nuclear plant gives off the awful fishy smell. When it gets hotter through out the year, the worst it gets. I've lived here for many years so my sense of smell  has just got use to it like it's just regular air.  My body will probably start to regret that when I get lung cancer when I get older.

Anyway today is my first day of high school. For me it's pretty nerve racking, going to a new building that I have never been in before. Luckly for me I have my older brother, Rylan. He had aleady told me all the basics of the building but he isn't very good at describing things so the building was a giant blur to me. Rylan is going to be a junior this year so my teachers already have a good idea of who I am. He says the building is way too big for the amount of people in it. He also says that there are a ton of dead areas of the building where there are no classrooms or anything.

This morning he drove me to school with him, he is a pretty reckless driver. I'm pretty sure he ran two stop sings and almost hit a car in front of us this morning. He has gotten a few tickets from doing this, but I guess he doesn't learn from it.

He drove up to the front of the high school and stopped at the sidewalk that leads to the front doors. He said to me with a stern voice," Alright get out."

"Why?" I asked.

"Because I can't be seen with you around my friends."

"Like your friends haven't seen me before." I rolled my eyes at him

"That's the problem they'll just stare at you and not pay attention to me."

"Oh shut up." I punched him the arm. I do sometimes catch his friends looking at me, but I never really look too deep into it. I really don't know why he cares if they do or not.

I start to get out of the car, when my brother grabs my wrist and says," Good luck."

"Thanks." I told him.

I started walking down the sidewalk to the front doors when I hear my best friend, Penny, start yelling at me, "Hey, Scarlet wait up."

I turned around and waited until Penny slowly got to me. "Hey Penny. It seems like I haven't seen you in years."

"We just hung out yesterday, Scarlet." she sarcastically said to me. We laughed at each other and we continued on our way to the front doors.

She lives right next door to me so we hang out 24/7. When I first met her, she was this wild child and I thought I was going to get so annoyed with her easily. But she suddenly grew on me. We also both have brothers that are in the same grade too. They are also best friends.

We walked into the building and we hear the intercom crackle. A women's voice blares through the microphone, "All freshman, please report to Mr. Owsley's room.

"Perfect timing." I tell Penny.

We follow everyone else because we really don't know where we are going at all. The only place I know the location is my locker. This is amazingly right next to Penny's locker. We also have all of our classes together.
