Robert drove on the road casually as the monsoon had arrived. He knew this was the only season when he wouldn't find any potential customers and so he began his day late, thinking less about the customers today. His hair appeared unruffled and face pale due to the hardships he had been suffering in his daily routine. None of his neighbors knew his plight of being lonely even though he was married. His wife, Anna, was a sweet woman with a tender heart. She had done everything to make him happy but to no avail. They were an unhappy married couple.

"Excuse me!" A woman knocked on the other side of his car's window. His mind that had surrendered to the past suddenly shook with uncertainty as the woman banged on the window.

"Hello? Are you listening?" She spoke hoarsely.

Robert agitated with the constant banging. He rolled the window down. "Yes, madam! What is it?" he said.

"Hey, I want you to drop me to the gates of heaven" She calmly spoke as her grey eyes took his attention.

The women was in her mid-twenties, looking as fresh as a daisy yet there were wrinkles underneath her eye bags. A dark, visible wrinkles that couldn't be hidden. He was transfixed by her beauty as he looked on at her without paying attention to what she said.

"There's no such village called heaven. I'm in the middle of work lady, if you want me to drop you then stop beating about the bush and say firmly where you want to go" He stated clearly.

"Well, I just exited hell right now and I am on my way to Barfoza" She said, with serenity.

"Ohh, barfoza! Lady, that's a long journey, I don't go that far." He said, swiftly rolling up the window. The woman seemed heartbroken at his reaction.

As he was ready to accelerate; the woman now, without a moment's hesitation jumped in front of the car. Robert was dumbfounded by her action. "What the hell! Have you gone mad?" he yelled.

Her eyes glued to him with her hands on the car's bonnet.

"This woman is mad!" He murmured to himself.

The lady now requested him with her hands folded. "Please! I beg of you! Help me!" She cried in helplessness.

He was unmoved by her persistent begging. She came next to his window with her hands on it, giving a hopeful look to him. He resisted her pleases.

"Women, do you know it's going to cost you a lot of money?" He said, feeling perturbed.

She looked unsettled with the way he reckoned her. Nonetheless, she was adamant to go. He observed her for a while, feeling apprehensive about the destination, not knowing how to deal with this women tactfully. Unfazed by his resistance, she continued persuading him. He reluctantly agreed to leave, knowing that he would be away from his wife for two nights and that she would be unbothered by his presence one more day.

"Fine Lady! stop getting on my nerve! sit back." He gestured to her.

To his surprise, she walked around and sat next to him. He was totally stunned by her behavior.

"This lady is a cynic!" He thought to himself.

Robert knew, it was no use objecting to her ridiculous behavior and wondered what more was left to be surprised about. The day had only began on a gloomy note. Apparently, he was only obliging her with some hefty money in return.

"Shall we?" She said, with an angelic voice.

He nodded in disapproval and let the car move in speed. Meanwhile, she looked at him with interest.

"Why is it that I see sadness in your eyes?" She said softly, her voice like the velvet fabric, smooth and silky.

He gave her a stern look and looked ahead. She smiled and in turn gazed at the window where a downpour of rain had started, falling all over the place like a blanket of fog and haziness. No one spoke for a long time, only the windshield wipers swung like a pendulum from left to right, back and forth in escalating speed.

After what seemed like an eternity, she broke the silence. "My name is Maria and I am keen to know who you are". She said in a soft whisper.

"Lady, I did not ask your name and you must not unnecessarily interfere in my life" He said dismissively.

"But I know why you are unhappy" Maria said.

"You know or you pretend to care, it's none of my business" he disregarded her politeness.

Again, a harrowing silence followed. He kept his mouth shut for the next three hours until she intervened in between.

"I need to go" Maria said

"In the middle of this forest? Are you serious?" He said in perplexed manner.

She stepped out of the car and smiled at him as if the destination had already arrived.

"Lady! Stop! For god's sake where are you going?" He said excitedly.

"And I thought you didn't want me as a passenger" She murmured softly.

"What?" He reacted.

Without saying anything further, she sat inside the car, wore seat belt and said nothing. He was astounded by her behavior for a brief minute. She simply looked in front. He released the clutch, shifting into first gear.

Dear Friends,

This is my first book on Wattpad and I truly wish that you like it.  (Actually, sincerely!). As you can see, it's a fiction book and the story revolves around two persons; Robert and Maria. Maria shows up in his life. Robert finds her intimidating and strange for some reasons. On their way to their journey, he doesn't know that many surprises await him that could eventually change his life. For good or bad? Well, that you'll have to find out as the story progresses ahead.

The town names are created. At least, you may have never heard a town called 'Barfoza'. And the story as I said is fictional, which also means that it's set somewhere in 2003-2005 (not in literal sense) when technology was not at its prime. You'll see that sooner while you continue reading.

So, the strange thing here, Robert witnesses is, why does this woman wants to travel all alone to another town that's a ghost town?

(P.S- Kindly vote, follow and share it with your friends! Thank you very much! :-D )
