Sasha sat at a table alone in the mess hall, looking dejected. Connie sat down across from her, "What's the matter, Sasha? Couldn't convince the cook to give you an extra ration again?" he teased.
"No... well, that too, but. This is different."
Sasha tucked her arms at her sides, looking defeated.
"Hey, what's happened?" His voice betrayed his concern for his friend.
Sasha decided to confide in Connie what she hadn't told anyone before today.
"I... I like Mikasa!" She hid her face behind her hands as she said it, the revelation was more difficult than she'd thought.
Connie didn't quite catch on at first. "Well, sure, everyone does. She's talented and strong and-" he caught sight of her blushing face, "... OH."
Sasha shut her eyes and nodded furiously before continuing.
"Today, I.. I don't know what I was thinking, it was a stupid thing to do!" She was on the verge of tears.
Connie turned her by the shoulders to face him. "Sasha! Look at me. Calm down, what happened can't be that bad. Here," he pressed a piece of bread to her mouth, "See?"
Sasha chewed on the morsel and slowly stopped shaking. Connie's steady voice and gaze always managed to defuse situations like this.
Sasha took a deep breath. "Today, I saw Mikasa while she was walking through the market. She- she looked so pretty and I had this feeling inside, you know?" Sasha's voice grew more frantic with each word. "A-and I didn't even think about it, I just walked straight up to her and confessed how I felt!"
She buried her head in her hands again."I didn't even say 'hello' first, oh God!
Connie began to understand why Sasha was panicking so badly. Mikasa definitely did not seem the type you want to rush things with.
"Okay... " he began carefully, "Did she... reject you?"
"No! That's just the thing! She didn't say a word to me, she just looked angry. She probably won't want to talk to me any more..." She was sobbing into the table now. Even to Connie, it was apparent how serious Sasha's feelings were.
Connie tugged on the sleeve of Sasha's uniform. "Ahh, Sasha... "
Sasha looked up to see Mikasa standing just a few feet away, looking at her. Sasha's heart leapt high enough to clear Titans. "Mikasa!"
Her eyes lit up for a moment before she realized that Mikasa being here meant that she had an answer for her. Sasha couldn't meet her eyes as she prepared for the worst.
Mikasa began, "Sasha I... I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner, I caused you to worry." Mikasa seemed uncomfortable, holding her own wrist so that her arm crossed in front of her. "I was surprised."
"But maybe I can make up for it?
Mikasa placed a hand on Sasha's shoulder as she leaned down to give her a light kiss on the cheek. Just a quick peck, before she stood up straight again and turned to speed walk out of the mess hall.
Connie waved a hand in front of Sasha's eyes and snapped his fingers. "Hellooo?"
But Sasha was in another world at the moment, flown there by the butterflies raging in her stomach.

Captain Levi sipped his tea as he asked "Ackerman, have you been working out too much again? Your face is red."
Mikasa tugged at her scarf, hoping it would hide her face. "Yes, Captain, I suppose I have."
