Coupling Up

COUPLING UP

"Welcome to this year's series of Love Island, girls," Caroline Flack smiled as she stood in front of the five nervous girls, all dressed in bikinis, "are you ready to meet the first of the boys?"

The five girls stood in a line - Mercedes, Delilah, Athena, Jordyn and Celeste - as they anxiously anticipated the arrival of the first boy. As Jordyn tucked her raven ringlets behind her ear, Mercedes gently tapped her acrylic nails against her thigh and Delilah played with the string of her bikini bottom. The air was thick with tension in the villa.

"Hello girls," a deep voice interrupted the suffocating silence, "you're all looking stunning tonight."

"This is Stephen," Caroline introduced the strawberry blonde man who has appeared beside her. He was average height, fair skinned and had a mischievous smile. "Girls, if you're interested in coupling up with Stephen you should step forward now."

Stephen watched as Athena, Mercedes and Jordyn stepped forward. A smug grin crept across his face as he examined the three girls. He was definitely pleased with himself.

"So Stephen," Caroline began, "Athena, Mercedes and Jordyn have all stepped forward for you. Now it's your turn to choose the girl that you would like to couple up with. Please say the name of the girl that you would like to couple up with."

Stephen stayed silent for a second, weighing up his options, before eventually saying, "Athena."

Stephen walked towards Athena, kissed her cheek politely and stood beside her - indicating to the arriving boys that she had already been picked. Of course, that didn't matter and Athena could still be chosen to couple up with any of the remaining boys and Stephen would be placed on the "sub bench".

A few minutes later and the second boy had arrived. A sweet smile played on his lips as he walked into the villa and towards Caroline. He nervously ran his fingers through his blonde locks as he took in the five gorgeous girls before him.

"This is Chris," Caroline announced, "girls please step forward now if you would like to couple up with him."

Chris watched as Delilah stepped forward.

"Chris, Delilah has stepped forward. But that doesn't mean you have to choose Delilah to couple up with. You can choose any of the girls, whether they've been chosen already or not. Who would you like to couple up with?" Caroline informed, looking directly at Chris.

Chris took one final glance at the five girls, finalising his decision in his mind. The same sweet smile plastered across his face. "I'd like to couple up with Delilah."

He casually walked towards the platinum blonde girl, kissing her cheek politely before standing beside her. Stephen took a step towards Chris, holding out his hand for Chris to shake. Chris took it and smiled at the strawberry blonde man.

It wasn't long before the third boy had arrived. He swaggered towards Caroline, a snap back shielding his head from the burning, Mallorca sun.

"Girls, this is Tobi. Please step forward if you would like to couple up with him," Caroline once again instructed.

Everybody watched as Mercedes and Jordyn stepped forward. Tobi let out a small breath of relief as a pleased smile took over his face. He was scared that nobody would step forward for him.
