Mother and Daughter

I was filled with joy to remember, but also sadness of the things that didn't go well.  Like how Lena was mugged and I didn't know about it.  Or how Alex got trapped and I was almost too late to save her.

The memory of my little Sami singing at the talent show made my heart jump and dance.  She was mine, no one else's.  No one can break the bond of a mother and daughter..... unless... nah, I'm not going to think about the possibilities of her hating me.  Besides, I'm Supergirl.

I was making breakfast for Lena and Sami because it was just a good day.  I was making pancakes, even though I wasn't a very good cook.  But, at least I tried.

"Hey babe-"

"NO." I shouted at Lena as she stopped in shock.

"Are you okay?"

"I WAS MAKING A SURPRISE BREAKFAST AND YOU RUINED IT! AGH LENA!" Lena shrugged and kissed me on the lips.  She then sat down at the counter as Sami walked out.

"Do I smell pancakes?"

"Yup, here you guys go."  Sami immediately took out her fork and began eating.  Lena looked at me with a smirk.

"So Kara."

"Yes?"

"Sami has something she'd like to tell you."

"UGH MOM NO I DON'T."

"What have you got to tell me?" Sami looked at me and blushed.  She laughed nervously and rubbed the back of her neck.

"Well... so... there's this b-"

"Nope.  We don't say the B word in this family."

"See mom? I told you she wouldn't like it." Lena then looked at me, and gave me a face that read, Kara lighten up.

"Okay... continue." I said stuffing another bite into my mouth.

"So there's this boy at school, his name is Charlie and he's really nice.  He gets teased a bunch at school but, somehow he's still really nice and kind and sweet and-"

"Yeah I get it."

"Kara..."

"What? I think it's adorable Lena but she's only in 5th grade."

"So?" Sami asked with an irritation in her voice.

"You're too young to..."

"Live my life? Yeah... dad used to say that.  Except afterwards he'd whip me with a belt so.  Yeah, no I get it.  Just forget it, okay?  I'm going to go and get dressed." Lena then stood up and called to her.

"But you haven't finished your breakfast."

"Yeah uh.. I'm not really hungry anymore." After she said that, the door shut so it was just Lena and I.

"Really Kara? Did you have to do that?"

"I don't trust this, Charlie guy.  He sounds kinda weird."

"Kara you don't even know him."

"Exactly."

"Geez Kara, just let her be happy." Lena then went over to grab her coat and I stood up quickly.

"Where are you going?"

"I have a job." Was the last thing Lena said before slamming the door behind her.  I just stood in the middle of the room, thinking about what I could have done differently.
