I looked at my mother from across the table, her hands shaking as she took a sip of coffee from the mug she was holding. "What do you mean you're sending me to live with aunt Anne in London?" I finally asked. "It's best for you, Reagan." "Or best for you?" I snapped. "Your father and I love you very much, but this is what's best for everybody." she said. I couldn't believe what she was telling me. My won parents were shipping me across the world because they couldn't deal with me.
The next morning, my parents saw me off at the airport. I wasn't happy to be going to London in the slightest. I sat on the plane and took a deep breath. I looked down at the bandage around my hand and pulled my sweatshirt over it. I looked out the window as the plane began backing away from the terminal. The fact that my parents were shipping me away doesn't surprise me, it's the fact they're shipping me away just two days before I turn 18 is what kills me.
When the plane landed, I awkwardly walked around the airport trying to find my aunt. "Reagan!" I turned around to see my aunt and two other people waving me over. I slowly walked over as my aunt pulled me into a hug. "It's so nice to have you here, and for your birthday no less!" I smiled as she let go of me. My aunt was always a very happy person, no matter what happened in her life. I don't understand how she's related to my mom. "You remember your cousin, Sophie right?" I nodded as I gave her a hug. "This is my boyfriend Nathan." Sophie said, gesturing to the tall boy next to her. She always got the good-looking, talented ones. I looked at him and he laughed a bit. "I don't bite." he pulled me into a tight hug and I could feel Sophie's eyes burning through the back of my head. "How was your flight?" my aunt asked me once Nathan let go of me. "It was fine." "You must be tired." Sophie chimed in. I nodded, keeping quiet. I felt like I complete stranger to my own family.
After we got my bags, we headed home. They lived in a cute little flat in London, though Sophie would stay at Nathan's every now and then. "And this is your room." my aunt said, opening the door to the guest room. "Dinner is at 6:30." "Okay." I mumbled, setting my large suitcase on the bed. I unzipped it and opened it, taking out my clothes and setting them on the bed. There was a knock on the door and I looked over my shoulder to see Nathan. "Soph and I are going out for ice cream with my mates...would you like to join us?" "And be the third wheel? No thanks." "Well, more like fifth wheel." he said, laughing a bit. I rolled my eyes and turned back to unpacking my clothes. "I'm kidding. It'll be fun, come on." Nathan spoke. I looked at him and sighed. "Fine, as long as you pay." Nathan smiled, putting an arm around my shoulders. "My treat."
We arrived at the ice cream shop and waited for Nathan's friends. "When are Jay and Tom getting here. I want ice cream now!" Sophie moaned. "Soon, chill." Nathan spat. I looked towards the door just as two guys walked in. One with a curly, brown head of hair and the other with dark hair. I looked at Nathan and he was waving them over. They must be his friends. "This is Jay," he said, pointing to the curly haired one. "And this is Tom." he said, pointing to the dark haired one. "Guys, this is Reagan. Sophie's cousin." Nathan introduced. They said hello and I gave them a small wave.
After we had ordered our ice cream, we sat down at a table outside. They all talked and laughed together while I silently sat next to Sophie. "Are you always this quiet?" Jay questioned, looking at me. I didn't look up from my little cup of ice cream, which was slowly melting due to lack of being eaten. "Tell us about yourself, Reagan." Tom insisted, finishing his last bit of ice cream. "I don't want to." I mumbled, finally taking a small spoonful of my ice cream. "Stop being anti-social, Reagan." Sophie hissed. I swallowed hard and stood up, throwing away my ice cream. "I'll see you at home, Soph."
I didn't know which way "home" was. I didn't remember. "Reagan!" I shook my head and quickened my pace, not turning around. "Stop." a hand grabbed my shoulder and turned me around, and I was soon facing Tom. "Did I say something to upset you?" "No..." I muttered. "Then why'd you run off like that?" he questioned. "My idiot cousin." I answered as I started walking again, Tom following next to me. "The anti-social comment?" I nodded, putting my hands in my pockets. "I'm sorry." "It's fine." I sighed. "Let me walk you home." Tom offered, holding out his hand. I looked at it, then him. "No thanks." I walked away, leaving him alone in the middle of the sidewalk.
