The wind that morning was restless, a stark contrast to the dreamy sunrise outside. The roof of the complex began to creak lightly, the blond boy stirring ever so slightly in his sleep. Momentarily, the panes of his window bursting open from the persistent wind, smacking against the wall loudly. The boy heaved and huffed, turning onto his back and slowly opening his eyes, irritated with the circumstances of his morning already.

He sat himself up with a gentle groan, stretching his arms and peering out the window from his bed as a stray couple of leaves were torpedoed in from the outside. Naruto lifted himself out of the bed, walking over towards the window and eyeing the nearby roads; although most of the townspeople were still asleep, those who were awake either owned a shop or were accustomed to an early morning-- particularly ninjas. There were a few ninjas unfortunate enough to be excluded from missions, and one such individual was Naruto himself.

Naruto huffed and clenched his fist, determination gleaming in his eyes. "If I keep training hard enough, granny Tsunade is gonna have to give me a mission!" He assured himself, a goofy smile forming on his face. He raised his hands and grabbed the doors of the window, closing the panes once again. He turned himself around on his heel and dressed himself, smirking even more now as he thought to himself. "Jiraiya and Kakashi Sensei would be so impressed with me, I bet they'd buy me ramen!" He furthered in his mind, his ego nearly hitting the roof just out of excitement. Naruto hadn't been slacking on training, but he proved to be restless when he wasn't facing any real challenges.

......

A couple of sleepy and uneventful hours pass. (Unless you are Naruto...)

......

The weather was nearly as dreamy as it were before, the sun at its brightest this time of the day. With few clouds to mention, Konoha was at its solstice-- or at the very least, nearing it. The majority of the townspeople had either nestled themselves inside or buckled down in a shady place, though the weather was just more incentive for the fiery blond to train. For the past two hours, Naruto had been trying to further his control of the rasengan, though with little luck by his side. Several trees in the training field had crescent-shaped dents in them, and about a quarter of the aforementioned trees being snapped in two from the force of the impact.

The boy slouched some, breathing a bit heavily from all the chakra he had used up. He jumped a bit, startled as he heard a familiar an distant voice speak up nearby. You couldn't wait for a better day to train, could you? A slight sigh came from the other's mouth. Naruto cleared his throat, a slightly nervous laugh slipping out from his mouth. "H-hey... how long have ya' been watchin' me, Shikamaru?" The young man finally slipped out from behind a tree, his arms crossed as they often would be as he rested his back against the side of the tree, "Not more than a minute."

"How'd ya' know I was here?"

"I heard trees snapping."

Naruto nodded slightly, though narrowed his eyes suspiciously-- his paranoia was in vain, though, since Shikamaru had truly only just gotten there. "So, why are ya' here, then? Did you wanna train or something?" Naruto scratched the back of his neck a bit awkwardly, the same goofy smile creeping up onto his face. Shikamaru pursed his lips slightly, hesitantly. "Mmm... I mostly came to see what was going on, and it makes sense that you'd be the one behind this." Shikamaru gave a smug grin, closing his eyes and tilting his head up. Naruto huffed a little. "H-hey! What's that supposed to mean?"

"It means you're reckless."

"How?"

Shikamaru raised a brow, extending his arm and panning it around in an arch, gesturing to the destroyed foliage. "It is a bit distasteful to destroy the training field, though for that rasengan of yours, I understand you don't have many good options." He shrugged, lowering his arms and stuffing his hands in his pockets. "Your technique is impressive, anyways. You should be testing your judgment in battle, instead."

Naruto clenched his fists, but only briefly-- he managed to damage his chakra networks from the constantly rotating energy in his palms, and his arms looked quite worn out as well.

"If I keep practicing, my technique can get better, too!"

Shikamaru raised a brow inquisitively. "If you overdo it, you'll be doing more bad than good for yourself, you know." Naruto responded with a huff-- he knew Shikamaru was right, even if he wanted to commit fully to his ninja way. "Well, I can probably take a short break," he agreed reluctantly, Shikamaru giving a curt nod in response, turning himself around on his heel to head back to Konoha. Naruto sighed softly, slumping over onto the ground, fittingly daydreaming of food. And in moments, or perhaps minutes, he had acquired a brilliant idea! "H-hey, wait! Shikamaru!" his breath heaved and he scrambled to his feet, running in the direction Shikamaru returned to the village in hopes of finding him again.
