I was walking up the sidewalk, carefully, eyes straight ahead. Tingles ran up my spine, and I shivered uncontrollably. Someone was watching me. Or more like the entire population of Ridgeville High. All I saw was the school, and I clutched my backpack, knuckles tingling. Stop looking at me, stop. Stop, damnit! The mantra repeated in my head.
No such luck, the entire school was probably still looking, and I swallowed. Oh well. I picked up my pace to almost a jog, and finally made it to the automatic doors of the highschool. Automatic doors! Fancy. Were these people so rich they were too lazy to open doors? Stepping inside, I automatically felt the lukewarm air wash over me, and I smiled finally I made it!
The tingles hadn't stopped though, and I knew why. In front of me, stood at least twenty students, by their lockers, just staring. Okay, then. That's not weird at all. I smiled fakely, and pushed past them as quick as I could. The hallway was long, with teacher's room every so often. Where was the office, anyways? This school was too big for my taste. I was at an empty part of the hallway, probably looking insane as I stood their looking every which way nervously and cursing to myself.
Making matters worse, a ripping sound occured from behind me, and I gasped softly hoping it wasn't my pants of anything. Spinning around, shielding myself from any eyes that were down this empty hallway, I patted my jeans carefully, sighing in relief when I hadn't found a rip. But, groaning, when my binders clattered to the floor. Great. My favorite bookbag ripped. It was really old, so maybe that's why. It had been with me throughout every school switching. It was sad to think that thing was giving up on me now.
"Excuse me. Do you need help?" A blond with stylish black rimmed glasses asked me. Whoa. Where'd she come from? Maybe she was my guardian angel sent to save me from this hell! Yeah! I snorted at the thought, and the pretty girl frowned. "Uhm...?" Ohh right!
"I would like help, if it's okay with you.." I mutter, biting my lip. A bad habit of mine.
The blond girl gave me a big smile, which was breathtaking, and soon she was kneeling at my level, scooping my books up with expertise, all neatly stacked. The girl was amazing, and if I had wanted a friend- she would be the ideal partner. I sighed mentally. Too bad she would think I'm a freak. I studied the girl cautiously. She was no shorter than me, maybe an inch taller. She was curvy, and blessed with it too. Her face held no traces of acne or makeup, and she had a nice serious jaw-line with a cute button nose and natural cherry red lips. Her amber eyes were lined with the perfect amount of eyeliner, and her eyelashes looked to be naturally long, and they were blond. All in all, she was very beautiful.
She must belong to the popular people's group. I offered her a nervous smile.
"So you're new right?" She smiled, almost apologetic to ask such a straight forward question. I gave her an easy smile. "Yeah, I am. And I'm having trouble finding my way around your huge school. What do they need all this stuff for anyways?" I complained, gesturing to the wide, empty hallways.
The blond girl laughed. "I think we're going to get along just fine. My name is Kera. I can show you around if you want." I nodded, extending my hand, "My name's Lecie. Would you mind taking me to the office, I don't want to be much of a bother. Just take me there and I think I'll be set. By the way, what time does class start?" Kera took my hand, and shook, frowning thoughtfully. I wonder what that was about. She then released my hand, and gave me a nervous smile. " Hold on."
Kera squinted down at her watch. "Class starts at 8:30, so you have about, oh, I don't know... Forty-five minutes?" "Perfect!" I say, smiling. "The office is this way, come on." Kera said, laughing at my happiness.
And I couldn't help but think- maybe I did deserve friendship for once...
