Sonny
"Sonata! Sage! Hurry down before you're late for your first day of school!" I heard my dad yell from downstairs.
"We're coming, Dad! Just one more minute!" I yelled back.
I looked over myself in the mirror once more while running my hand through my dark brown, shoulder-length hair. My outfit consisted of a black spaghetti strap cropped top, black high waisted jeans, pink high tops, and an oversized jean jacket. Simple but cute.
"Perfect," I said as I grabbed my bag and headed downstairs. I saw my family going through their morning routine. My dad was looking at a new article with his tablet in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. Mom was leaning on the counter responding to emails. And Sage was scarfing down a breakfast sandwich.
"Good morning Parentals," I greeted my parents.
"Morning honey," Mom responded. "Are you two ready for your new school?"
"Do we have a choice?" Sage asked.
I looked over at my twin as I sat to eat my sandwich, and honestly, he looked really good. He had on a simple gray shirt with dark jeans, and gray sneakers to match, not the most exciting outfit, but the fit on him was everything. The summer had been really good to him. He gained another four inches placing him at a grand total of 6'1" as opposed to my 5'7". He also had created a workout routine and stuck to it, and as a result, he gained a good bit of muscle. All together my baby brother was pretty attractive.
"No you do not," Dad responded. "Actually, you two should be leaving about now, the new school is a little farther away and you don't want to be late on your first day."
"We will as soon as Sonny finishes up her food."
I glared at my brother while chewing as fast as I could. I quickly finished and we were headed out of the door. The drive to school was filled with us singing loudly and very badly to whatever song was playing on our favorite radio station.
"You have the worst singing voice Sagie," I said between laughs.
"True! But imagine my voice on crack and go up an octave. That horror is your singing voice Sonata," he responded between laughs of his own as we got out of the car.
"Oh shut up, I'm not that bad."
"You're both pretty trash," a super cute blond said. She had on a flowy, yellow, halter top dress that stopped a bit past her knees. She paired it with a short sleeved, cropped sweater and strappy gray sandals.
"Mel!"
"My loves!" Mel exclaimed as she pulled us both in for a hug.
"Well, I will let you two catch up. I'm gonna go hang out with my cool friends," Sage said as he headed in the direction of his athletic friends.
"I still can't believe what happened to the school," Mel started while we headed towards the building. "Like who would even think to burn it down?"
Over the summer our previous school, East Canton High, suffered from a mysterious fire. No one knew who started it or why they did so. All we knew is that we couldn't go back. So all of the students had to be divided up and sent to other schools in the surrounding area. So I had to go through senior year in a whole new school with a whole new group of of people I didn't know. Thankfully Mel, Sage, and I ended up at the same school.
We walked into the building and I couldn't help but feel a pair of eyes on me. I just knew someone was watching. But with so many people I just couldn't figure out who.
"I have no clue. But whoever did it was an ass. I had so many plans for senior year, now we're gonna have to spend it feeling like freshmen."
"Sonny bunny it'll be fine. Who knows, this could be the best year of our lives!" She exclaimed.
"You're so disgustingly positive and I love you for it."
"I know," she giggled "Come on, let's get our schedules."
We got our locker assignments along with our schedules and immediately compared them. Thankfully we had six out of seven periods together. The only time we would be separated was our last period, I had art and she had A.P. Calculus.
"You just had to take that extra ap class," I giggled.
"Yes, yes I did."
"I'm gonna text Sage and see what his schedule is like."
I had pulled out my phone and looked down to start typing the message when I bumped into something. Hard. It caused me to stumble, but mid fall a pair of strong arms caught me and steadied me until I regained my balance. Everywhere the arm was held me felt like electricity was running through my body.
"You should be careful, wouldn't want to have an accident on the first day of school," the deepest, sexiest voice I've ever heard said to me. I looked up into his gray eyes and he looked into mine for what felt like forever. Until I heard Mel cough, I looked at her and she had a small smirk on her face. It was then that I realized that I was probably blushing. Jerk.
"Thank you," I said while looking back at the beautiful stranger.
"You can really thank me by giving me your name."
"I'm Sonata, but my friends call me Sonny." I noticed his look, it was the same look that everyone gave me when they first learned my name. "Yeah, I know it's unusual, but my mom wanted something different."
He laughed. It was the most beautiful sound.
"Believe me, I understand unique names. I'm Nixon."
"Nixon? I like it," I say while smiling at him, looking into those beautiful eyes again.
"And I'm Melissa, but you call me Mel," my best friend says very loudly. "And we have to go now, right Sonny?"
"Umm...yeah. We're new so we should try to find our class."
"Well I could help out," he offers.
"That's sweet and all, but we're good. We're supposed to be meeting someone," she says while looking at me.
Shit.
"I totally forgot." It was also at that moment that I realized that Nixon still had his arm around my waist. "Nixon it was so nice meeting you, but we really have to go," I say backing away slowly.
"See you around, Sonata." The way he says my name sends chills down my spine. I give him a small wave and rush off with Mel.
"Are you insane?" She questioned when we got to our destination.
"No Mel, it just all happened so fast, and he was so attractive, and it was ultimately nothing."
"I hope so."
"Seriously, I promise it was all nothing."
A pair of arms grabbed me in from behind and pulled me into their chest. Unfortunately, this time there were no sparks of electricity.
"What's going on, baby? What was all nothing?"
I looked at her with pleading eyes. "Sonny almost fell on her ass in the hallway and caused a scene."
"Oh that's so precious, my clumsy kitten," he chuckled as he leaned in for a kiss, which I accepted.
However, after our kiss, I just so happened to catch a beautiful pair of gray eyes staring at me. It was at that moment I knew Nixon would not be nothing at all.
