Nixon

I stared at my beautiful mate as she walked off with her friend and her boyfriend.

"Is that her?" My best friend asked while following my gaze.

"Yup. Apparently, she has a boyfriend."

"That's what you noticed? Not that fact that she's, ya know, human?"

"And?" I asked while glaring. "It's not uncommon for a werewolf to have a human mate."

"For a typical wolf, no, but how often do you hear of alphas with human mates?" I glare at him. "Not saying there's anything wrong with a human mate, it'll just throw some people off, especially since she's gonna be our luna."

I knew he was right. Human lunas weren't common, but it didn't matter to me. She was my mate and I would do everything in my power to love, cherish, and protect her no matter what. And if anyone had a problem with her they would have to deal with me.

"I don't care that she's human, right now I care that she's unavailable."

"Want me to kill him?" River asked as he walked up. "The boyfriend I mean. It'll be a quick and painless death, and you'll have a chance to swoop in and comfort her while she's mourning."

"Doesn't that seem a bit drastic?" Micah asked as we started down the hall towards our classes.

"Not if it gets him his mate."

"No River, I don't need him to die, he hasn't done anything to deserve it. Plus, if I couldn't win my own mate over without killing the competition what kind of alpha would I look like? I'll just assess the situation for now and then I'll come up with a way to get close to her." As soon as I said that the warning bell rang, signaling that we had a minute left before class began. "Head to your classes, I'll talk to you both later."

With that, we all went our separate ways.

*******

The day went by quickly, and I was currently headed to my last class of the day, art. Out of the six periods I had so far, including lunch, I saw Sonny during three of them. Just being near her, smelling her scent, hearing her voice, it was driving me crazy. I wanted to pull her close, kiss her, even just talk to her and get to know her.

However, her friend Mel was usually with her. If she saw Sonny and I looking or smiling at each other she would do something to pull Sonny's attention away from me. At one point, when I finally got to sit next to Sonny, she came up with some lame excuse about not being able to see the board and made Sonny switch with her.

It was annoying, but I knew she was just trying to be a good friend and protect Sonny's relationship. In a way, I was glad Sonny had someone that would fight so hard for her, and I kinda hoped that Mel would fight just as hard to protect my future relationship with Sonny.

I walked into the art room and quickly noticed that all of the desks were set up in pairs and they all had name tags on them. After looking around a bit, I stumbled upon the desk that was my own and sat at it. Before I could even look at who my desk mate was I saw her walk in, my beautiful mate. She walked in while chatting, not with Mel, but with a different boy than I had saw her with this morning. They were laughing about something and she looked so genuinely happy. Her eyes surveyed the room and found mines, and surprisingly she walked over to me.

"Hey there," she started.

"Hey, what's up?"

"Well, nothing really. I just wanted to thank you again for saving me this morning from total embarrassment. I definitely preferred being in your arms this morning to falling on my ass and making a fool of myself." My eyebrows shot up at her statement and so did those of the boy that she walked in with, who I noticed had sat down at the desk pairing that was next to the desk pair that I was currently at "Wait, I didn't mean that the way it sounded. I just meant thank you."

The boy couldn't contain his laughter. "Smooth Son-Son, real smooth."

"Shut up, Sage," she said with a small glare. It was so cute I couldn't help but smile.

"You're welcome, Sonny. Just know, you always have a place in my arms," I said and the boy busted with laughter again.

"Sorry about him, my brother is an idiot."

"I'm the comedic relief," he said while still laughing. "What's up man, I'm Sage."

"Nixon," I said with a small head nod.

Sonny gave me a small smile and walked to take the seat next to Sage.

"Sorry Son-Son, this actually isn't your seat."

"It's not? But we always sit together."

"Not this time sis, the nametag says 'River Smith' is going to be the lucky gal to sit next to me. Side note though, River is such a hot name, I bet she's fine as hell."

Just then I finally looked at the name on the desk next to mine and it was like the moon goddess herself had blessed me.

"So where am I sitting?"

"Next to me," I spoke up. Sonny turned to look at me and I could see the excitement in her eyes. She walked over and sat in her rightful seat, next to me. "Also, Sage, River is a guy."

Right on cue River walked in. "What's that? I heard my name," he said I he walked over to me and we gave each other a greeting hand slap. (A/n: idk what to call the handshake things guys do.)

"Hey, Riv. This I Sage and Sonny," I placed emphasis on her name and he immediately got it. "We were just talking about seats, you're sitting next to Sage."

"Oh, sweet. Sup, man," he said while giving Sage the same greeting as he gave me. Then he gave Sonny a big smile.

"So River, my brother was just talking about how your name sounded hot, and how he thought you'd be some hot girl."

"I mean, I was only wrong about the girl part, he is still hot."

"Thanks, bro you're pretty attractive yourself."

"Secure masculinity, I did that. We're gonna be great friends," Sage said.

"Alright class, settle down," the art teacher said from the front of the room, and the class gave her their attention. "Alright, let's get started. My name is Miss Sanders and this is going to be a different art class. As you can see, all of your desks are in pairs and that's because all the assignments we do will be in either pairs or groups. So get very acquainted with the person seated next to you because they will be your partner for the school year."

I looked over and smiled at Sonny. Best class ever.
