"Okay, run that segment one more time, band," yelled Mr. K. He stood on the bleachers with his brother, also known as Mr. Kuper, watching us preform. One in a while, they would stop the band and tell us to do something different to improve our show.
It was 4 o'clock on a Friday afternoon. We had to be off the field in a half an hour because of the football players. Getting on the field was easy but getting off was hard for my band. Mr. K and Mr. Kuper gave such a schedule for us to follow, which made it hard to get off the field in time. We had a lot of things to fix from our show, especially since it was the beginning of the year... Kind of.
After marching the segment, we were allowed a five-minute break for water. It was already 4:15 and I was out of water, so I skipped the water and just went over to my trumpet friends and talked with them for a while.
"Okay, band, back on the field for a run-through, then we will be done for today," Mr. Kuper explained. Everyone whooped and hollered, making their way to their spots.
I ran to my spot on the field, right on the fifty-yard line. I went to 'low' and waited for the drum majors to get onto their podiums. First there was one, then two, then all of them were on the podium. I tried to catch my breath before we started, but I only felt a little wheezy.
"Set!" yelled Isa. We all went to our opening positions, standing still, waiting for her to start to move her arms.
I watched as the conductors started to move their hands, counting the steps that I took, memorizing the steps from one place to another.
I made my way to my spot, making sure not to mess up, nor miss a note from my solo. I breathed as my solo ended, making me finally realize my condition.
I put my left foot down, feeling a shiver down my spine and the sweat drip from my face.
I put right foot down, about to 'place'. I feel the edges of my vision start to blur and fade away.
As I 'close' my feet in place, I felt my head spin, my heart beat faster and my eyes close in on the ground, letting the darkness, soon, take over my body.
I heard the music stop, and that was all I heard from then on out, along with all I saw. I couldn't open my eyes at all. They just stayed shut, along with my right hand, closed in a fist.
I remember being moved from my spot, maybe being picked up of dragged, but I can't remember. I just remember the feeling in my head and in my hand. I felt like my hand was in a ton of pain and my head having a migraine.
----Dream----
I smell the sweetness of his body, making me feel the urge to kiss him. He wraps his muscular arms around my waist, pulling my body closer to his. I look up and snake my arms around his neck, resting my head gently on his chest.
I feel his breathing. I feel the whole world stop. I just look at Jason, remembering the way he did this. He never figured out how to hold me right, always by the shoulders, not the waist. He always made fun of my height since I was shorter than him. He always loved to hold my hand, letting my fingers warm up from the early-morning breeze.
"You remember me, ey?" I look up to see Jason replace the previous boy. He gave me a sheepish smile, showing a little bit of teeth.
I start to cry as he holds my back and cradles my head. I let out my heart and let myself cry, remembering the concert we went to in May. I remember the look on his face when I was singing along with P!NK, singing 'Beautiful trauma' as loud as I could. He hugged me when the song ended as we cheered. This was after we broke up. Before I told him that I still liked him after I broke up with him.
