Syrena's POV
I dragged Philips down under the water. Although the water was cold, I could feel his warm body against mine.
Normally, other mermaids would have dragged him under water, drowned him, then eaten him. But I would never do that.
Not only the fact that I love him, but also it was because I'm not like other mermaids.
I hate having to eat humans because in my eyes, they're exactly like us. Except, obviously, we're half fish. What I'm trying to say is that it's basically cannibalism.
I don't understand how mermaids can eat people and never feel a thread of guilt from it. Yes, I admit, human flesh is tasty but it's not right!
Unfortunately all I can do about it is swim to the surface and watch humans be innocently drowned alive.
Millions of humans fall for the same old trick every single day and it makes me sad. They fall for our beauty and the we can just sing to them and they're hooked. That's our chance to drag them down under the water.
Also, they kind of scare me.
I see many mermaids get stabbed by their sharp, silver, swords. I have lost close friends from them risking their lives to eat humans. Philips is different, though. He doesn't scare me.
I finally reached the ocean and as I did, I tried to keep out of sight of the other mermaids. If they saw me with a human then they would think I'm trying to kill him so would try and help me.
I quickly found a place to take him where we were out of sight of humans and mermaids.
As soon as I came out of the water my tail disappeared and a pear of legs replaced them. Philips took his shirt back off and wrapped it around me.
"You know, for a second I was worried you were going to kill me." Philips exclaimed.
"I would never kill you," I replied, "You are different, are you not?"
"But most mermaids eat humans."
"Not me. I don't agree to it. And plus..." The next sentence I was going to say was "I love you" but I couldn't find the courage to say that to him out loud.
"I knew I could trust you, you are surly one of God's own creations and not one of those beasts out there." He pulled a disgusted expression at the thought of the other mermaids. That hurt me a bit as after all, they were my friends.
I smiled sadly, "Sometimes I feel as if us mermaids were born heartless... Especially Tamara, the leader."
Tamara was the stuck up leader of the group. She hated the other mermaids apart from Marina. She was probably the most beautiful of us all and she acted as if she ruled the ocean.
"Yet you're so selfless. It's almost as if you're not actually a mermaid" My heart fluttered as he said that. I could stay right here. With him. Forever. But unfortunately that was impossible if you were a mermaid.
