Noises

After school, we eat dinner. But the whole time we were eating, I kept hearing noises. Some were coughing noises, some were just foot steps, and some were just random thumps. Nobody else seemed to notice, so I didn't say anything. We finish dinner and do the same thing as last night. Once again, I was awaken by coughing. I get kind of scared. I look at my sister. She's sleeping. I walk into my moms room and climb in her bed. But I still keep hearing coughing. I hear the cabinets open and close. I grab a flashlight and walk downstairs. "Maybe its a raccoon" I think of possible things making those noises.  I turn on the lights and hear footsteps behind me. My sister looks at me like I just asked the most stupid question ever. "What are you doing, Sam? It's 3 o'clock. Go to bed." She says in a demanding voice "I heard something." "Sam...go to bed." She walks back upstairs. I stand there for a while, still confused.  I go back to bed and this time, I hear someone whisper "mom". I keep hearing it over and over. Then coughing, again. My sister wakes up and looks at me. "Are you coughing?" She asks looking around. "You hear that too? I've been hearing it since we got here." I answer, thankful that she hears it too. We both stay up waiting for the noises to stop."Should we go look downstairs?" I ask. "We should just wait. Let's tell mom in the morning, it might be dangerous to just go investigate ourselves." We waited until morning, barely getting any sleep at all.

7:30am. Samantha wakes me up. My mom is in the kitchen making breakfast. "Mom. We heard someone coughing last night. I also heard the cabinets open and close." I tell her after she's done cooking. "Wait, that wasn't you?" She says looking worried. "No, it was neither of us." My sister assured. "I came into your room a couple of nights ago and asked if it was you." I reminded her. We sat in silence for a while. "Maybe it was a raccoon or something." I say, breaking the silence. "Maybe. I'll go to the store and get some cameras. That way, we can see what it is." "But that doesn't explain the coughing." Samantha added. "We'll figure it out. Bu-" My mom stops. "THE BUS!" We rush to get our book sacks and run outside. "Love you!" I yell before I close the door behind me.
