Part 38

I walked downstairs. I went into the kitchen, and got some eggs and bacon out of the freezer. I started to cook them both. I went into the living room, where my phone was charging, and looked at it.

1 MESSAGE: CHARLIE (DAD) SWAN: Alissa, are you okay? Bella and I are in Arizona. Text me when you get this.

1 MESSAGE: BELLA SWAN: Alissa. I'm sorry I didn't come back for you. Charlie pulled me back to where I couldn't get to you. Please forgive me, although I don't know if you'll ever want to.

I texted Charlie back. I'm okay, Dad. Don't worry about me. I just put some eggs and bacon on the stove to cook. You know how good of a cook I am, LOL. Anyway, I'm sorry for leaving last night. I met the one person who will mean the world to me someday, and I just couldn't leave him.

The next person to text back was Bella. Hi. Don't apologize. It's okay. Charlie could do whatever he wants. It's okay. And I'll always want to forgive you, whatever you do to me. You just have to apologize for me to forgive you. But you didn't have to apologize for this. I was never mad at you.

I went back into the kitchen to check on my eggs and bacon. I moved them around in the two pans.

As I cooked, I thought about what Edward had said to me. "I love you too." I smiled at the thought of him.

Later, when I was finished my breakfast, I walked upstairs and got dressed, and all of my other stuff. I walked back downstairs.

I was in the living room looking at my phone when it happened. I didn't know what it was, but I felt a cold hand grab my wrist. I turned as fast as I could and looked behind me to see who was there.

Edward.

"Alissa," Edward said in a voice that broke my heart. "Come. The Cullens need you." He helped me up and walked out to the car. He opened the door, let me in, and closed the door hard. He walked to the other side and got in. He started the car and drove out of the driveway as fast as possible.

While we were driving, I asked him, "Why do the Cullens need me? Did I do something? I can't help them with anything. They're vampires, and I'm a human." I looked at Edward, expecting an answer.

"That's exactly why they need you," Edward replied, looking at the road and driving. "Because you're a human."

"Why do they need a human?" I asked. I was confused, because why would a vampire need a human?

"You'll see when we get there," Edward replied.

We arrived at the Cullen house. We walked to the door, and Edward held it for me. We went upstairs, where the Cullens were waiting for us. All of them were crowded around Alice, who was obviously seeing something.

Alice ran over to me. Edward let go of me, and Alice hugged me. "Don't leave us," she begged. "Never leave, whatever anyone tells you. Just stay with us. You need to, Alissa. In order to survive."

"What do you see?" Edward asked Alice.

I looked at Edward, then back at Alice.

"It's James," Alice told him. "He's going to make Alissa lie to all of us and leave, or else he's going to kill someone very close to her."

"Who?" I asked Alice. I couldn't hold it in. If it was Edward, then I would just go and let James kill me.

"I don't know," Alice replied. "But I do know that he's going to tell you who it is, and no one else. Just please don't leave us."

"If he's going to kill someone close to me, I might as well go myself," I said. "I can't afford for someone I love to die."

"Well," Alice said, we can't afford for someone we love to die." She hugged me again, and walked back over to the other Cullens.

My phone rang, which scared the living crap out of me. I looked at the phone. CALL FROM: UNKNOWN CALLER.

"Pick up the phone," Alice said. "It's him. And you'll need to go outside so that we can't hear you. He knows. And do whatever you choose. Go or don't go. Whatever you want. But please don't go," Alice hugged me.

I answered the phone and walked downstairs. "Hello," I said. I turned around, and it broke my heart when I saw Edward standing there, looking at me. I turned around, almost crying, and walked out of the house.

"Alissa," James said.

"Hello James," I replied.

He said in a stern voice, "I'm going to tell you to do something, and if you don't do it, I will kill someone very close to you."

"Who?" I asked.

"I haven't decided yet," he replied. "Either your mom or Edward."

Immediately when he said Edward, I started talking. "Okay, I'm coming. Where are you now and what do I need to bring?"

"Remember your old ballet studio? I'm there. You don't need to bring anything," he told me. "But do not bring anyone. Because if you do, you can say goodbye to Edward."

"No!" I yelled. "How did you decide him over my mom?"

"He's your soulmate," James told me. "Although he doesn't have a soul. But I want to kill the one you love the most."

"Don't," I said. "Okay, I'm coming. Without anyone."

I immediately regretted my decision to leave Edward, Alice, and the rest of the Cullens there. But I needed to save Edward. I was going to do whatever it took to do just that.
